Title: Leg rings on too tight?
Post by: Shropshirelass on November 26, 2012, 07:58:20 pm
Hi all I've just been leg ringing my new turkeys & my bantams but I'm just wondering the 16mm leg rings I've put on the turkey hens do fit (Way too small for the stag so will order more for him & my geese) but they are touching the scales on the legs but can slide up & down, should I take them off & just use for some large cockerels or ducks & buy some 20.6mm ones for the females as well? x

Doesn't sound like they've got much growing room - I'd get some bigger ones I think.

Ok thanks that's what I thought, but it was the size the shop advised  - fortunately their really easy to handle  :) will order some bigger ones tomorrow but I think the birds are fully grown but the boy definatley weighs a bit more than his girlies & is a bit bigger x

I had a cockerel, who I'd have said was full grown, grow fatter legs somehow and his ring got tight and made a mess of his leg for a while. So now I err on the 'loose' side with leg rings.
