Title: Where is all the flubenvet
Post by: Bert on November 25, 2012, 01:54:02 pm
I've spent most of the morning searching the Internet for flubenvet. It's out of stock every where I look. What's going on?
I used the last of my flubenvet on the last round of worming I did, was going to get more in when it got close to the time it was needed again. But as luck would have it ( luck is being a right t**t to me at the moment  :huff: ) I need some now because one of my black rock girls (scabbers) has what I believe to be black head and flubenvet is the recommended treatment.
Dose anyone know where I can get some, any advice would be great.

I think the manufacturer is sorting the licensing of the product. Medicines need relicensed at intervals and sometimes this can cause a shortage for a while until the backlog is caught back up once it is relicensed .

( I'm not sure what I've wrote makes sense but I understand what I mean   ;D )

I've been using Panacur 10% suspension on my birds. Could be a useful alternative. I never like relying all the time on the same wormer as it could build up resistance.

Do you just squirt it in their beaks?
I have done that for geese but not ducks or chickens. Hmmm, she thinks about catching them all......

I heard they are not currently making it, the production line has been switched to do other things, I heard that they are due to start again in the new year, but that was at the end of a very long grape vine!

Not tried to get flubenvet because l have tried my first bag of pellets with the flubenvet in it from marriages.  Its a lot easier to use and cheaper than the powdered stuff.

Yes, I do too - I have a tub of the powder stuff too just in case, but pellets is so much easier.

I had a look for the pellets as well , also out of stock. Must admit didn't look very hard for that as it would mean changing the diet ( as girls are on mixed corn) . Didn't want to change diet as that could upset there little tums in other ways.  My girls seem to be doing OK on mixed corn, still getting 12 or 13 eggs a day from 15 birds.

Love the link on the bottom of my original post  . That is were I always get my flubenvet , they don't have any! Lying sods.

Re Flubenvet this is from the Marriage's site

October 2012: Flubenvet® Available From 29th October

We are pleased to say that Marriage’s Farmyard Layers Pellets with Flubenvet® will be available again for despatch on 29th October, although we are taking orders prior to that date. At the moment, we have a limited supply of the medicine but hope that more will be available soon and we will not need to stop production again. We apologise for any inconvenience caused over the last four weeks.

September 2012: Flubenvet® Temporarily Unavailable

UK stocks of the poultry wormer Flubenvet® have run out and the manufacturer is waiting for a shipment to arrive. This means that Marriage’s Farmyard Layers Pellets with Flubenvet® is temporarily unavailable. We will update this page when we receive new supplies and apologise for any inconvenience caused in the meantime

And something else, from Urban Chickens

As many of you are now aware Flubenvet has disappeared from shelves everywhere. Elanco (previously Janssen) the manufacturers have now said that they are missing an ingredient to be able to make it at present! This is due to being let down by a foreign supplier.

They keep changing the date that it will once again be available for sale. Currently November but I think its most likely to be the new year(my opinion).

And someone else had contacted Elanco who told them it would be back in production around now.

Current issue with Flubenvet is that the EU want to make it a fully licensed veterinary product which would mean that you need to (a) be suitably trained in application of vet medicines & (b) can demonstrate suitable disposal methods for waste products. Only know this as I work with a lot of poultry producers who think that it should be a licensed veterinary medicine....although I'm not sure they have a valid reason for it other than to deter us lot from having chooks! NFU are to some extent in cahoots with this but it is still available if you speak nicely to your local farm supplier (Davidsons up here in Perthshire for example).

Personally I've never used it as there are animal husbandry ways of minimising the concerns re worms etc.

Trust the EU to cause a problem eh?!!! >:(
