Hi, someone asked on RC forum about trimming pigs toes! thought I'd ask on here for advice too! so;
Do pigs toenails need trimming?
Do you trim your pigs toenails?
How do you do it?
Do they mind!!?
Any pics showing how?
Thanks :pig:

I found three links that might be of interest. Having said that though they all refer to Potbelly Pigs. I will look further since it is useful info to add to the LACEF website. If I find any more info I will pass is on re the larger pigs.

I've never needed to trim any of ours. Oldest is 5 years.

What colour nail varnish do they prefer. I'm sending mine for a pedicure ! ;)
-
They don't use nail varnish...they prefer their toenails to be natural PIGment!

Sorry for the above, I just couldn't resist.
Seriously, I had a GoS sow with extremely long toenails and eventually I called in the vet to sedate her, he/we used hoof trimmers and a paring knife...a year later they were as bad as before. She had no problem in coping and was always a great mother...my advice is unless the toenails are causing distress or are preventing her living a normal healthy life, leave well alone.

I always love the sense of humour people have in this forum. Seriously though my girls have expressed a preference for ruby red, so how am I to dictate......women!!

Ha Ha you lot!! :pig: She seems fine with them so I will just keep any eye on her, if she looks as though she has difficulty walking then a pedicure it is, along with pink varnish ;D

It depends on what colour sandals she prefers.

If the sandals are stilletos be sure to wear steel toe caps!!!
