Has anyone got any experience with those water nipples. I saw them at the abbatoir last year and all the factory pigs were slurping away.
Having cleaned out muddy water-troughs several times today I'll try anything.

Hi I've got galvanised drinkers, they're the small bowl type, I just scoop out the muck with my haand when needed!

Thanks Dixie,
How does the pig get the water out? Does she push it or bite it?
I checked out some agricultural suppliers on the web and there seems to be a very large choice.

They are auto fill, as they drink they fill up again! my sow hated at first but soon got the idea, the others took to it straightaway. This is them!! its the small bowl 6th product down.

Thanks for that Dixie. I've seen them at my farm shop but didn't know which one to get. I'll report back when its installed.

Mine love the trough - bit of a paddle and all that. I woudln't want to spoil their fun for a few minutes to rinse out the trough.

I would love automatic waterers, however Edwina our big GOS has a passion for buckets and troughs. She stored 4 buckets in her arc, and hid two more in the field, all in one day. Its amusing to watch her wondering around with a bucket trying to decide where to plant it, but frustrating having to retrieve them each day and the water filling in this hot weather is very onerous. Imagining what she would do with drinkers and the resulting flood is enough to make me think again.

Just an idea but we set our drinkers onto a breeze block and put a post in the ground to cover the water inlet! just in case the pigs decided to push under and rip them off!

My pigs are slumming it with an old Belfast sink - very shabby chic la la la!
