What do you use before and after milking? Anyone make their own herbal one
-
I use udder wipes which I buy from Ascott.
I use these beforehand but I don't use anything afterwards. I seem not to have got into the habit, as for a long while there are kids about, who dive in for their breakfast the minute I've stopped milking.
The kids have gone and I'm still milking but I don't teat dip. No probs working this way for four years now.

Teisen udderwipes before (the only ones our merchants stocks), and teat dip afterwards. I do have a couple of goats that tend to lie in their own muck a bit... and we had issues with (subclinical) mastitis for one last year. Since I teat-dip religiously no more! For teat dip I just use a weak solution of Capriclense, which is the disinfectant I use for my milking machine. Ascotts do a dip-cup, which I found helpful.

Ah, maybe it's that I only milk in the mornings that's why I get away with it. They're up and about and not lying down for hours afterwards. I can see if I milked at night and then they lay down that could be an issue.

I just squirt off the first few squirts into another container. Use udder wipes though. No probs so far :fc:

Yes, I squirt the first squirt into the 'cat treat' pot ;D

Thanks every one... No one else gona share their tips?

Wash before ,Udder cream after ,

I've used udder wipes from Ascott in the past and possibly will again for their sheer convenience but up till I dried Savannah off, I was using warm water, cloth that I can wash at 100C and ...you've guessed it...my own soap (unfragranced!) I found that I didn't need to use udder cream as often (I guess as its quite moisturising?)
First few squirts either go into a strip cup (once a week or so) or I just squirt whoever is standing nearby (children) just because I'm mean like that.

:roflanim: :roflanim: I think the cats are gonna get the strip cup

have used unscented baby wipes before now, and a weak iodine solution to dip after.

I used to aim at the cat, must have liked it cos she kept sitting there everytime ;D

Teisen udder wipes before and the first couple of squirts go straight onto the milking bench for the dogs to clear up later. I did use a teat dip on my older goat as she was very prone to mastitis but haven't done on this one yet.
