Title: Owwww!
Post by: smallholder in the city on November 11, 2012, 08:18:44 pm
Lovely sunny morning so I decided to get Bob ready for a ride and a bit of schooling in the paddock. He was clearly quite keen on the idea. As I was leading him into the schooling paddock he got very excited skipping about a little half buck and managed to kick me in the thigh :o  ...twice.
Sooo painful I was almost sick. Although I then wasn't fit to ride I did make him calm down and behave, walked him round the paddock a couple of times (me limping) and he was fine. He initially haired off after the kick but fortunately came back when called.
Now have a lovely developing bruise all down my thigh. Nothing broken just very sore probably deep muscle bruising which will take a while to heal some difficulty weight bearing initially but it's improving.
I'll be spending the next few weeks going over the basics again with Bob doing lots of groundwork and reminding him of his manners. On the upside I get to lie on the sofa and have the husband see to my every need.  ;D

Just been googling Arnica gel as so many horsey forum discussions mention it. I've ordered some. Husband has even offered to do the poo pick tomorrow which I couldn't manage post injury today  :)

Definitely a case for arnica. Doesn't have to be gel, though - and can be applied internally and externally... I always have a couple of tubes around - back from the time when my thighs always had bruises due to working with horned sheep and goats! And I remember a cow's "footprint" I had to treat once... Ouch indeed.

Arnica is great stuff, I even use it when Pitstop ( Shetland ) gets bruised soles. Good on OH to help out with the poo picking. Make the most of the break and take life easy for a few days
