All websites and owners are suggesting coopers spot on for lice but it is de-liscenced for pigs. How do i get hold of it
-
Haven't heard of it, but as stated in the other thread, LICE, an all in one injection works brilliantly!

Hello,
We bought a bottle of it for cattle. At the end of the day it's the same product. We even use it on our dogs & cats. It was around £10 for a 250ml bottle (as opposed to around £5 for 3ml of "dog" spot on).
Cheers

Could I get it through the web, it was 27 euros for 3 spot on last week.
-
Hello,
Not quite £10 anymore but still better value than the pet version :- http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/Coopers-Spot-On/productinfo/SPOTON

Brilliant thanks, will get on to that today.

I love this forum - have Spot-On for my cows, but hadn't thought of using it on my pigs!! May have to wait a while, though, as I foolishly broke my arm yesterday - not sure how accurate I will be left-handed!!!!! :D

Hmmmm, couldn't buy any of that Spot stuff without having a vet here first, so asked one of my neighbors; he said 'just dust some ant powder lightly in the straw they sleep in'. I tried it and the Tamworth, who was really struggling with about 40-50 lice on him, appeared the next morning with ZERO lice on him. Applied it again to the straw 10 days later, and that killed all the new ones that had hatched since the last treatment; not seen any for 6 weeks since and he never seems to have been bothered at all by the powder. All for £2.99. It contains the same chemical as used in all lice treatment - horse lice powder (about 7.99) also works well for pigs, I have been told.

Hmmmmm what about for chickens?
-
about 0.2 -0.5 per hen. i have messed up in the past and they were fine. just dont eat the eggs while treating. is there a stand still after treating a meat animal there must be as it is absorbed by the animal. try the sweet itch treatment it does a great job on midges they turn there toes at the smell it should easily kill lice. i even use it on myself much better than other insect repellants.

WARNING.
I use Ivemectin cattle pour on for my poultry and pigeons but DON'T use it on your dog. It can have dire consequences.

The best cure I have found is to rub a little motor oil on them - works straight away and a lot cheaper than the solutions at your agri merchant!
-
To get rid of them quickly olive oil, or any cheap oil will work. To keep them away for months at a time you have to go with the injection or spot on.
-
I noticed a few lice on my pigs and have been removing them with a nit comb and squashing them. The pigs seem to enjoy the attention and I can indulge my hunting lust!
How many lice does a pig need to have before they affect their well-being?
-
The old fashioned remedy for lice, was an ointment (or should that be oinkment ::)) made from three parts lard, one part flowers of sulphur - I should think DEFRA would have a thing or two to say about rubbing pigs with lard, so a more suitable substitute for nowadays would be pig oil ? This was also used for a mange treatment :pig:
