Good evening,
I've been fascinated by this fiendly, lively and informative site for a while now but I have been reluctant to join in as I don't know if I can be described as a smallholder.
My wife and I have recently moved onto this plot into a new-build house. We are surrounded by beautiful Wiltshire countryside, an acre and a half of which belongs to the house. Next door we have the use of a further 2.5 acres.
At present we have a flock of about 50 layers which provide fro family and friends plus a few gate sale. We are also bringing on a few turkeys for Christmas. Our 2 British Lop gilts have recently been activated by a BL boar and we have 5 Black Welsh Mountain ewes with a friend's ram. (We bought these as being in-lamb earlier this year: that ram was clearly duff. Having written all this, I guess we are smallholders? Best regards, Pauljay

Hello and welcome from Carnoustie
Sounds like a great set up you have there

HI Rosemary,
Thanks for the welcome. Yes, we are very pleased with the set-up and with the potential. We have also been fortuante to meet some like-minded people in the village. This has allowed a fair amount of mutual help and good advice already. Looking forward to learning from this site as well. Rgds Pauljay
PS for fiendly read friendly :dunce:

 Hi and welcome from Shropshire. I consider myself as a smallholder - well, micro-holder - with a large back garden containing my goats, fruit trees and bushes, and some veggie beds.

You are definitely a smallholder!
Hello and welcome from a beautifully mild Somerset.

Hi there and welcome from Worcestershire  Sounds like a pretty productive smallholding to me

Thanks darkbrowneggs for the compliment. We're moving forward towards more productivity but other obligations seem to get in the way of the enjoyment and satisfaction that the true smallholder achieves..
We'll get there and stop the mad rushing around.
Cheers
