Title: Yellow paste works - Sometimes!!!
Post by: Brucklay on November 04, 2012, 07:43:18 pm
Well having posted last week at the yellow paste working for my Castlemilk ram with his girls I thought the shetland ram could be a dud as they went in at the same time and virtually no yellow signs.

I used the same paste on both rams but am wondering if the shetlands denser fleece "sucked up" gunk as today walking up the road - there he was, bold as brass doing his duty and not a hint of yellow on the ewe.

I guess maybe I didn't put enough on or it's dried out but there is a 100% difference - without being rude do different breeds have differnet techniques ie should I have pasted lower for the shetland - at the end of the I'm please he's doing it

I add raddle every couple of days on my Shetland tups.

Put the tup lamb in today, turned round to see a ewe with yellow on her shoulder and side. Watched tup lamb jump on her from the side and try very hard to do his bit. Sigh. Anyway, when I went to feed them, he seemed to have sorted out which end he was supposed to approach from  :D

Jaykay - your right I guess mine has dried up - maybe the castlemilk is a bit 'rough' - glad your tup lamb has worked out where to put his bit!!
