What is best treatment for lice on pigs

Not sure what the best is, but we use mite powder it seems to get rid pretty quick. Make sure you remove and burn all their bedding as the lice will be living in the straw aswell.

I use dog flea spray or spot on seems to work.

Is that coopers spot on because I am having trouble gettingit now as it is not liscensed for pigs any more

No its frontline. I stop using it about 6 weeks before they go off. :-[ :-[ :-[

In France we use an all in one external/internal parasite injection which we repeat every four months. The thing to know about doing this though is that the animal cannot be slaughtered for meat for I think 58 days after administering the injection. It is very effective and works out a approx 1 euro per pig to treat. For larger numbers of pigs it is an ideal solution. For sheep and goats also.
There is a thread on this section going way back to the early days of the forum which is about this subject. We find that Tammies are the worst for lice, and if they get them then the little blighters just get passed on to others with hair.

Yes and on occasion getting too close to a pig whilst treating it for fleas I have managed to get them in my hair as well. Quite revolting.

Are the little critters very obvious? My pigs scratch lots, but I've never seen any passengers running around on them!

Look between the armpits and behind the ears, they are brown or black and dont move much. If worried spray with some dog flea spray, if they have them you will see them starting to run.

OK thanks for the that! When I picked up the pigs poohs this morning one pooh had two dead massive long worms in it - YUK! Would they be Ascarid worms? What is the best wormer ot buy?

I've just read an old thread by sausagesandcash about worms and I'm off to the local agricultural suppliers tomorrow so will see what wormers they have. I feel pretty stupid as I should have automatically wormed them as soon as they arrived.

Mirimaran, dont feel stupid, we always worm anything we are selling just before it goes off. It may be that you assumed this would be the case with yours.
Might be a good idea to worm again 6 weeks before sending them to the abattoir if you are eating them.

I've just bought some Flubenol off the internet as I couldn't get any locally. For some reason the whole worming thing just didn't enter my head, but if it had been a horse, cat or dog I would have done it automatically. New species and the brain goes to pieces!
