hello peeps i have a gos x white boar at stud. he is now 12 months old but sadly living on his own as he was a prezzie .... i feel soo sorry as he has lived alone , well the only pig, for nearly nine months now :( i am looking to put him out to stud for 20 pounds and no more i just want him to be out for a while and get to meet some other piggies..... the price of his stud is negotiable and i was looking for him to stay at yours for a month so we know he has caight the sow on her "time of the month"....... if you think that after that month your sow is not in pig the boar would be able to stay for an agreed extended peeriod of time until she is deffinatley in pig for an extra cost of 50p a day or 3pounds a week.. please pm me for more info of just some pics he is a very handsome boar and put to any sow would make lovely piglets perfect for the frezer or pets :) thanks for taking the time to read this ad

may i suggest your main goal should be to find your boar some permanant company, the likelyhood of him being used as a stud is very low, due to him not being pedigree stock of a good proven bloodline. i think you should either find him some company, send him off to piggy heaven or sell/give him away.
you could get a good freezer full of meat off him, a much better way of making some cash from him.
sorry to be blunt, but i thought id say it a bit less bluntly than others may.

he has company and adores our horses " minature shetty " that is smaller than him and lives with him xx so i couldnt possibly slaughter him xx as i have been told many tims as shettie would be lost without him but just want him to get out and meet some female pigs xx thanks though xx

Good luck with finding him some company ... its certainly going to help if you state where you are based and a photograph of him wouldn't go amiss.

i have to agree with DITW he is a cross breed you and for £20 you can get pedigree semen to AI.
you dont say who is paying for the feed whilst he is on his holiday or if he is a proven boar.
sorry but if its pig company he is needing get him a companion pig they should not be kept in singles.

yes pigs should have company of their own species its all in the welfare statement for pigs

I'll be blunt, you are guilty of animal cruelty. All animals should live with company of their own species sell,give away ,slaughter or get him a pig of his own.

i agree with the others that your boy does need a female friend. You will struggle to rent him out because of his lack of pedigree and because people are cutting back on their breeding programs. A barren gilt or sow would be your best option as companion if you don't want piglets yourself, of course you will need to decide if you can afford to keep another pig alongside your boar but at the end of the day it is his welfare and happiness that matters, so only you can do the right thing by him.
The person who bought him for you as a present should have had more sense and thought about the consequences of their purchase ::) so i'm not blaming you .

So whilst I do firmly believe that farm animals are herd animals, and I would never recommend people to get one of anything, I do recognise that animals are like humans, they are individuals. And it is possible for a farm animal to live on its own, and for it to be fine. However, that is usually been the result of a companion dying, when the animal is already older, and when bringing in a new animal would be more of an upset to the existing older one.
I have to agree with the other people on this thread, with him only being 12 months old, he needs a companion of his own. He's only young, and he needs a friend of his own kind.
