Title: Does the heat affect egg lay?
Post by: Pomona on May 30, 2009, 06:35:41 pm
I've got 3 Black Rocks, just about 28 weeks old (roughly) so still very young, but they've been as regular as clockwork with the egg-laying.

Today and yesterday though, only two of them laid, one laid a soft-shelled.  It's not a problem inasmuch as they're pets as much as egg-producers, but I wondered if the heat of the last couple of days could have affected their laying routine?   They've got shade, fresh water etc, so I don't think they're stressed out, but I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this disruption to the routine in hot weather?   :)

more to do with diet, I reckon. Have seen no changes in the ducks' eggs although they seem to suffer from the heat a bit. Try increasing their ostershell grit and see if it makes a difference. :&>
