Just watched it on YouTube and now have an aching in the trouser area.. Deffo a job for the vet :goat:

As you have to get the disbudding done by a vet anyway it is just as easy to get him/her to slip on the rubber ring too.... yes the boys feel a bit sore, but usually not very long.
More difficult to do it yourself - you would only need that if you had a polled male. If you were to decide to ring them yourself it would be best if you could get to a lambing course in one of the Agri colleges. Lambing and kidding are very similar anyway, and lambing courses normally cover castration too.

carl, you should never let a vet near your trouser area anyway. unless shes hot... :-J ;)

I don't think Curry even noticed his ring. It took ages for his bits to drop off though. More than two weeks anyway.

Poor Sixpence went in for a ring (whilst under anaesthetic and being disbudded) but the vet decided to do a surgical castration (I assume he couldnt' find one of the bits he needed to squeeze into the ring by feeling around....) now we have a 7 month old hairy goat kid with a scrotum dangling about ::) and me being mrs paranoid had to ask a well known breeder to have a grope and check that sixpence couldn't still get his mum up the dufferoonies when I *thought* I could smell billy....

Maybe if the vet had waited till the kid was ready to be castrated instead of following the rules you wouldn't have needed to bother ;)
