Title: 7 yr old girls first poultry show
Post by: gillsta on October 27, 2012, 07:13:29 am
Let's hope the weather is ok on Sunday. My little girl Skye has her first poultry show. We will be bathing her Scots dumpy girl, Lemon Sablepoot cockerel and one of the lemon Sablepoot girls today. Maybe a citrus Sablepoot as well. Skye is so excited she just loves her chickens.  Not sure if I will like this showing thing. :o

Good luck Skye!!

I didn't think I'd like the goat showing thang, but the kids just loved it! and it was brilliant to share the buzz as they walked off with rosettes and trophies  :excited:

Good luck- what kind of chicken show is it? Is it a local poultry club one, or one as part of a bigger event?

Not sure what it is but it's up at Elgin which is about an hour and a half away. It's Moray and Nairn fur and feather club. So Pumpy the dumpy Spectacular the lemon Sablepoot cockerel and hmmm can't remember her name lemon Sablepoot girl are all ready to go. They actually enjoyed getting a bath. All totally relaxed when they were getting a blow dry.

Might be too late for warning you- was going to say you take plenty to do with you, a book etc, game for your daughter to play. When I went to my first poultry show outside of an agricultural show, it was held in a village hall. Nothing in the village but a tiny pub (which didn't open until 1pm). Of course you were not allowed in the village hall until judging was finished, and there is only so much a teenage girl and a bunch of men in their 50's and 60's can talk about in the tiny tearoom attached to the village hall!

Thank you everybody. My word what a long day. Should have left chickens then went for a five hr walk as it took ages. Never mind Skye got a second with her young Dumpy girl. She was chuffed. Managed to get some good advice from some very knowledgable people about presentation e.t.c. Our Sablepoots need quite a bit more pampering in the feet regions. Untidy feathering to feet is a big no no.  :)
