Title: Local Playground
Post by: Small Farmer on October 25, 2012, 06:46:52 pm
One of big neighbours stacked a good number of 8*4*4 straw bales four high down by the main road where the local kids have been using them as a play resource for the last six weeks.

Three years ago, mind you, one of the kids had a lighter and there was less rain. :furious:

What a great playground.   :D   Always some idiot who spoils things though.   >:(   At least with the weather we are having, this year's should be safe.

It does annoy me when people treat crops, or resources like straw as something disposable. I hate seeing people walk their dogs right through the centre of a field of grain. Do they not realise that is the farmer's livelihood they are trampling on?

Sorry, rant over!

The farmer can't be happy but it looks like the kids had fun.

People don't think, especially children and if someone doesn't spell it out they don't know. As children we would make dens in the hay and corn fields, we had it spelled out good and proper on our backsides :o ;D

The problem is that wouldn't be allowed now

It's so spread out because the farmer removed the remaining entire bales a couple of weeks ago.  Trouble is he's a farm manager and uses a lot of contract labour

Last time when it was torched they had to send 6 fire engine pumps and another neighbour provided a loader to pull down the stack to get at the seat of the blaze.  The farm manager lives away and arrived well after the main event

Not always necessary either. The kids probably just haven't thought about any problems they might be causing.

My ex, when he was a bobby, was called to 'vandalism' at an estate in town. When he arrived, he found two 10 year old boys, with spades, carving out a set of bike jumps on the communal lawn  :o The chap who had phoned in came storming out wanting the kids hanging, drawing and quartering

D placated the chap and went to talk to the kids. What are you doing lads? Well, we saw this nice flat area and thought we'd make some bike jumps for us and our friends. Well, see, you can't do that here because other people like the grass green and flat, they don't like to see bike jumps. Oh, said the kids, very surprised at this odd point of view. So you're going to have to flatten them out again. Oh no, really mister. Yep.

So D arranged to come back in an hour and sure enough, an approximate 10 year old attempt at flattening the jumps had been made.

He was laughing about it later, said they honestly hadn't seen a problem with what they were doing.

It would have been easy to call them hooligans and vandals - but they were just being kids.

I thought you meant they had been put there for the kids to play on.   :dunce:
