My usual suggest to wannabes is to look up the WWOOF hosts in your area - there are many very good ones in Essex, I know - and get your hands dirty, make some good contacts, learn loads and have a lot of fun  :)

It isn't for everyone, but be warned - I WWOOFed and it changed my life!  ;D

Hello from a foggy and damp Somerset :wave: . I agree about joining WWOOF. It gave me the confidence to start my own smallholding and you can't beat the practical experience that it gives you.
