Title: No sloes this year
Post by: tizaala on October 23, 2012, 08:09:48 am
Normally we are inundated with the sloe crop round here , but this year not a single sloe to be seen , must be the too much rain.

Same here.... :(
for us, march was cold and dry and April (onwards) it pi**ed it down. We've had a glut of blackberries so i'm trying blackberry vodka for a change, i'm hoping it turns out ok

I saw a few rotten on bushes a few weekends back, but you really had to search for them. Was looking forward to sloe gin this year :-(

Not nnticed any here either , but i don't drink so never bother with them anyway.
Blackberries are very small and hard , there were plenty of rowan berries and rose hips though , but no damsons , plenty of elderberries . Strange year .

Nope, none here near York either.  Rowans and rosehips aplenty though - really must get round to making that jelly before its too late.

we have sloes hiding around the fields not as many as past years but enough and along with the late blackberries things will be good - I only drink water and teas due to the medications but  the berries = good presents for family and friends - we are on the Gloucestershire Wiltshire border - near a very good flour mill.

Well I've got 6 bottles worth of Sloe Gin on the go, my sloes were very sparse but from a good year we had a load in the freezer.
Does anyone know why the call is Sloe Gin - mine always seems to go quite quickly.

I'm in South Devon, near Newton Abbot. I can start picking for you both if you like. Looking out of my caravan window I can see, all in a row, sloes, hawthorn berries, rosehips, blackberries and spindle berries. Perfick!!!! :)
