;D ;D ;D
Yesterday I got given 3 Aylesbury ducks and a drake, a call duck and 3 cayugas (sp?) I let Mallows have the 3 I can't spell.
I also got given 12 cockerels and after dispatching one of them all by myself I now have it cooking gently on my fire and by gods it smells gert lush :yum: :yum:
So I did it, every stage and didn't wimp out of any of it

Great to hear that Colliewoman - there's hope for me and the Turkey's yet - no names, easy to look after and concentrating on Christmas dinner!!

Carl, I don't mind eating rabbit, as long as it had space to live a good life 1st ;)
As for tips, I would say decide and just DO it!
At night is easier, and I use an air rifle as I know I can't mess it up. I bust my wrist badly as a young un and can't grip that well :-\
the one I have just et was a 3 year old orpington. breasts were fab an the dogs ate enjoying the legs (raw) :yum: :yum: :yum:

What method did you use collywoman?
Gently picked him up, took him out of earshot of the others, held him by the legs so his head was on the floor and a pellet between the eye and ear. obligatory prayer of thanks and then as soon as the flapping stopped I prepped him.
He was scrumptious :yum:
-
do they not need hanging for a few days?
asking as i have culled sick layers but never done eaters!

Most people do but I cannot stand the taste of hung meat (shut up deepinthewoods :-J :D )
it does mean it's not quite as tender, but I don't mind

We might have to eat them Cayuga's too CW.... and I am not convinced they are Cayuga's......... cayugas are normally a sheeny greeny black. One of these I can see Mallard undertones and the others are dark browny!
We got robbed!!! LOL! :eyelashes: :innocent: :-J

That's for sure, plus great company - I really miss mine but I'm too scared of that damn fox to get more. :'( :'( Freckles was desperately trying to get under the fence to the paddock this morning so i eventually let her through and she went hunting like there was no tomorrow. I reckon Foxy Loxy had been back for a nosey!
