Title: Propane Gas
Post by: bucketman on October 18, 2012, 11:42:30 am
Had the guy from Callor gas round yesterday. He said it will be £18 per mth rent on the big tank we have out the back and 55p a ltr to fill it up he said it would cost about £400 to fill. So if any of you have Propane gas what do you pay was told by some one to shop round. but was just wondering whats a good price

Wow, that's quite a steep rental!

Admittedly we only use gas for cooking, not heating or hot water. However, we pay £60 each for 47kg red propane bottles, and probably get through three or four a year. At least you've confirmed for me that there's no point in us getting a big tank installed!

The thing is Womble you dont know when it going to get filled. When its 80% empty it sends a txt to Calor and they come and fill it up. you cant call them and ask them to fill it up. Also the prices may be up a bit as ther for a business

Those big tanks were always a rip off with the rental. stick to the 47 killo bottles for cooking and get a woodburner for your heating.

At least you can now switch - thats quite a recent change.

The rental does sound quite a lot!!
Not sure on the price per litre as its business and also there arent really comparison sites for LPG, from what I hear the companies are quite slow at coming up with competitor quotes in the past, it might be better now.
There are certainly comparables tables for buying groups and they are quite a bit cheaper but only if you use several tens of thousands of litres a year.

yep that sounds about right - we're with Avanti (was shell) and its £60/yr rental and about £500 a fill (I think 52p/l last fill)  We had to fight not to go on auto fill and Direct Debit - they arnt keen at all, but as we only use it for a winter morning Central Heating 'blip' (what a godsend THAT is - not having to get up at silly O clock to light fire, or plan to keep it in overnight ;D )  a tank might last 2 winters.
