Title: The Working Horse Revival – Coming to Crieff

On Saturday the 17th of November the British Horse Society Scotland is holding an event entitled “An Introduction to Working Horses” in a stubble field outside Crieff in an effort to address a growing interest in working the land by horse.
 
Expert and time served ploughman Allan Thomson from Tullochville Aberfeldy will take the audience through a series of informal presentations including:  what horses can do, how to get started, were to find equipment and help and caring for a working horse including fitness and feeding.
There will be several horses on hand including ploughing, harrows, box cart, logging and a show harness.
Development Officer for the BHS Helene Mauchlen said: “We have been aware of a growing interest in using horses for working the land from small holders and people with large gardens, so BHS decided to put on an educational day that has the horses’ welfare at its heart.”
The event will take place on a stubble field on Highlandman Loan east of Crieff (sign posted from the B8063) it begins at 10am and a soup lunch and home baking will be served. (Costs £10)

I wish I didn't live so far away from Perthshire as I would have loved to have gone to this.  I have met Allan Thompson a number of times as I was born and brought up in a lovely village outside Aberdeldy.  I used to go along to the various local ploughing matches and demonstrations (heavy horses are my kind of horse).
I hope you get a good turn out of spectators as it is such a wonderful thing to see.  My grandparents worked their farms with horses - I wish I was around then.

something similar happens down here in cornwall yearly, i will remember to flag this event when it is next due.
