Title: tagging
Post by: firemansam on October 12, 2012, 01:52:46 pm
I have 6 new sheep, they are tagged from the previous owner.
Do I tag them with my own tags?

Nope.  Sheep are tagged with their holding of birth.  Those remain with them forever, unless they lose those tags then they get replaced with tags from the current holding.

Nope leave them be.
If your ewes lose their tags you replace them with identical ones if you know the details, if you don't you replace them with  RED replacement tags with your flock mark.
Each ewe should have (depending on age) a normal ear tag with uk # and individual #
AND a yellow EID tag. Lambs could be moved on a single slaughter tag, but if you are going to keep them you need to double tag

I just double tag all my lambs as that way when I decide I am gonna keep them all after all I can! LOL!  :innocent:

Same here, with the small numbers I have it doesn't make much difference to me to have the extra cost of 2 tags :D

Oooh now you have 4.5 acres as well you can have hundreds!
If I had the amount of land you have now, it would be really, really dangerous!!! LOL

I always reckon its worth double-tagging anyway - I don't think you could sell your stragglers as stores if they hadn't got two tags..

:roflanim: :roflanim: Totally thinking like Anke - wish mine would manage a year or so - although I do have a five year old female with her original tag (2 days before double tags)
