Its in the oven now and I cant wait for that spicey fruity smell overtaking the house in a few hours. I havent made a Christmas cake for at least 6 years, maybe 7, so it was quite an even for me. Luckily I found and old bottle of fairly decent brandy in the barn, so I plonked a good dollop of it in the cake and will add it fortnightly until its iced. I even bought some traditional decorations and a frill from Ebay so that I can do the traditional "snow scene" on the top.
The countdown to Christmas has started today. Im going to get really prepared this year so that it isnt a financial burden in December.

Mmmm, I love Xmas cake, wish I was at your's today! :)
Rosemary usually makes 2, because our willpower is so lacking we always end up eating the first one.

Hubby has been threatening to cut into it since it came out of the oven Dan. He's a great fruit cake lover. The sooner I get it wrapped up and shut away in its tin the better I think. The house does smell lovely though, and Im happy to say that the cake hasnt sunk in the middle! :relief:

:yum: love Christmas cake.
Mum always makes a big one, and there's only the two of us like it. It only lasts into mid January ??? ???
The scary thing is that now you have pointed out how fast Christmas is approaching and I'm nowhere near prepared, not a single thought on it yet :tired:

I've been seriously disorganised for the last 2 years and haven't got round to it til early December (and it's just not long enough to feed it brandy ;) :innocent:) I might actually think about pressie buying too - it's been a mad dash the last few years and having a christmas day birthday (second daughter) makes for even more chaos ::) :roflanim:
Thanks for posting Mary - you've spurred me into action ;)
I think I will take an hour out tomorrow from pressure washing and get one in the oven

Love Christmas cake too :yum: . My MIL makes the best I have ever tasted and always makes ours (I just can't compete!). My daughters don't like it, OH is away half the time, so, oh dear, its down to me to devour. Well I can't offend her can I? ;)
