Title: Just a quickie ... weaning
Post by: in the hills on September 16, 2012, 08:11:22 pm
Did the deed today and separated ewes and lambs.

How long do I need to keep them apart for weaning to be successful?

Thank you

2 weeks usually does the trick for me if they are in fields where they cannot see/hear each other.

Mine were ok after 3 weeks, initial separation through fence only, then boys a bit further afield, mums and daughters are back together again...

I've just taken the boys out. They're sleeping up by the wall over which are their mums and sisters but they're not making too much fuss. One ewe looks for her boy occasionally. That's it for mine now, the boys will stay separate and the girls will either stay or go to the York sale in 3 weeks.
