quick question, whats the best age to kill my boy boy goat, whos not so little now - he was born on the 29th april - so that makes him just over 5 months, i was thinking somewhere just between 6 - 8 months, thought maybe hed go just before christmas, would this be about ok?

Mine go when I get fed up with their antics... ;) , but usually about 8months. If you are thinking before Xmas make sure the abattoir gives you available dates - around here it is usually no private kills from late November onwards...

MIne was supposed to go at 8 months but he's still around at 15 months. It took me a while to find an abbatoir when our local one closed down. Now I need to get him ear tagged. He'll be getting tough if I don't do it soon.

We recently sent a 7 month old 75% boer kid and got 15 lb meat vs 23 lb from 75% boer 18 month old. They dont tend to grow too much over the winter unless feeding loads of concentrates - which we dont - both just fattened on summer grass. I would keep to next year to maximise size but that is from my experience.

Mine is a Sanaan x British Alpine so I doubt I'd get that much. Hope for about 20lbs.

those weights seem light to me we had a 6 month old sannen and he came back @ 51lb a 7 month old bt 35lb boxed meat i have never had a 6 month old back under 32lb.

That's encouraging. Thanks.
