hello! are there any locals (fife area) out there able to help me sex my 13 duckletts - their voices are starting to break - i think I'm hearing more duck noises (but that could just be wishful thinking).
as i am looking to rehome them within the next 3 weeks i would rather know what I'm selling rather than going for the sold as seen - i also want to make sure i keep girls not boys!
any offers thanked for in advance
cheers
Cameron! :&>

you know I'm rubbish at it but we can pay you a visit sometime soon ;D :&>

Hi Cameron,
Why not just squeeze each duck, and separate them according to what noise comes out? Then once you've got them in two piles, you should hear nothing but quacks from one pile, and nothing but er, you know what I mean, from the other!
Then just ring (or loosely cable-tie) the legs of all the boys, and you can put them all back in together.

now Womble, the image just made me laugh out loud :roflanim: . it must be really easy to catch and squeeze yours! :&> ;)
-
No not easy, but it is possible!
By the way, you should only put the cable tie round one leg. If you put it round both, they fall over ;D .
-
the cable ties are sat waiting - blue and red (should be pink but can't get them)
well i can hear different noises - its just they all sound similar...perhaps i will have to leave it a bit longer
squeezing them makes them projectile poo everywhere!!! will make sure im not wearing white next time!
NFD - feel free to pop over - im usually around during during the week so just send us an email when ever :&>

Mind ewe I'm laughing but in a short while to come I will be asking the same question. :fc:

Hi cameron, I can come and help if you like. I am by no means an expert (and managed to mistake a boy for a girl in my last batch) but I am on my 3rd batch of ducklings now and i think have managed to 'get an ear for it' so am willing it to give it a go. I would also like to buy a couple of girls from you. I have a small clutch of 3 about the same age so could take them now and grow them up with them.

I was utterly confused this time when her voice started to break and the rhythm changed towards the male croak. The crunch time came a week later when she was released with her mum to run with the others. The excitement must have brought on the first and unmistakeable quacks! Maybe leave yours a bit longer. I found this recording quite helpful

Is that you finished college then already? :&>

I must be incredibly naive, I had no idea you could sex ducks by their voice! This is definitely my 'new thing learned' today
