hello!
not been around much lately, i'll tell you my tale......
i was working in the field gateway, and cloudy (my pony) decided he wanted some attention. he was nudging me in the back, and i overbalanced and went down onto my all fours. he decided this was a great game and that it would be a good idea to step over me and take the chance to escape....well, in the process, he managed to stand on both my calves.
i spent 2 nights in hospital for monitoring, and all seemed to be ok.
my right calf is healing ok, a bit mishapen, that may or may not resolve.
the lft, however, began to blister, then turn black. so, after 2 courses of antibiotics, several dressing changes etc, it was decided that i should be reffered to the plastic surgeons. they decided to debride (cut out) the affected area. this entailed another couple of days in hospital.
so, now, i have a rather large hole in my leg, and a speceila dressing with a vac pump attatched, which both sucks away the fluid and gunk, and encourages the wound to heal from its base up. depending on how well the pump works, i may or may not need a skin graft in due course.
now, i'm not the best at not being active, and fighting the old down in the dumps devil is not that easy. but, it will heal, i just need to be patient! and i feel so guilty being off work! poor steve has been running around after me, and his mum has been great, taking on all my jobs as well as running the house and sorting out cups of tea for all my visitors.
there are pics on fb for the less squamish........

-
oooo - poor you :bouquet: Here's hoping the healing process goes as well as it can. We're no substitute for being out and about, I know, but we're here for chat and support. {{{{hugs}}}} :-*

thanks girls!
to be honest, is not terribly painful, but a bit nippy and uncomfortable.
i've been catching up on all your antics, some making me smile!
i'm a wizz at mahjong now too :)
-
My sympathies are on their way. Sounds like an ordeal to me.
-
Naughty pony! That sounds quite an ordeal. Wish you better soon :bouquet:
-
Oh, that sounds really nasty. Lets hope it heals well without the skin graft :fc:
Do you knit or anything similar because now is the time to do it without feeling guilty either.
Sally
-
Oh dear - so sorry to hear that! Hope you get better soon.
I always say you should wear safety boots when working with livestock - but in this case you would have needed a full body armour... Next time.
-
That sounds awful. Hope you get better soon x
-
Aargh! Nasty. Hope the pony stopped to help. ;)
You'll have to do what I'm doing with my enforced inactivity - spending half my day on here. Trouble is, I get impatient when people don't do the new sentence game quickly enough. I'm in danger of having to follow my own sentences. ;D
-
:bouquet: here's wishing you a speedy recovery without the need for any more surgery.
Hope cloudy has received a good talking to :-J and is behaving!
We are here for chats to help you through it
-
Heavy old things horses, quite capable of ripping flesh off bones without even trying, hope you're feeling better soon :bouquet:

he is a naughty pony, his manner are somewhat less than gentlemanly at times, we have been working on it and he has improved a great deal, but his lack of respect for me on this occaision was rather disapointing. horse whisperer is coming on the 19th, be interesting to see what that reveals!
i was thinking about getting the knitting back out, used to do loads, your right, be a good time to rekindle that!
and ironicaly, i was wearing my steel toe capped wellies, but as you say, wrong part protected this time lol!
ok, off to join you in the sentence game........:)
-
Hope you get well soon :bouquet:

Maybe you can threaten to stand on his calves as revenge? (The pony's, not the horse whisperer's! :innocent: )

-
Oh Tazbabe - that sounds really bad - I get knocked about a bit by all the livestocke here but a bruise is all anything comes too - hope your on the mend soon and back out and about :fc: :fc:
-
Tazbabe, I'm not squeamish. How do I find you on Facebook?
did you find me?
turns out the horsewhisperer was not all they seemed, was a phone consultation while you stood beside your horse! weird..now cancelled!
still fancy trying this though, anyone know of a genuine whisperer?
-
No use on the horse whisperer front, just sending hugs for a speedy recovery  And yes, I reckon knitting would be good therapy while you're not so active :knit:

Just seen them. Ooouuuuccccchhhh! Looks nasty. What's the pump for? I've asked you to be friends. Please say yes.
-
;D i'll say yes.
it's not my best portrait, is it!
the pump is to provide a negative pressure, it encourages the wound to heal from the botom up. and its to do with negative ions and things...
-
Get well soon from me too. It does sound really painful. Do they do goat whisperers as well as horse whisperers? I really need one for Billy who likes to TRY and show me that he is boss. He's not winning but its a bit of a tussle at times!!
-
i wonder if they whisper to all animals, or if each favours a different species? ooh, something for me to do, research time! ;D
thanks to everyone for your good wishes!
to add another sad no9te, we had to say goodbye to one of our dogs this week too, poor meaghan, she was a lovely girl. >:(
-
Oh that's so sad. I hate saying goodbye to my animals and it doesn't get any easier with each successive one.  :bouquet:
-
poor u, sounds awful.
my calf was stood on by a horse and badly bruised once and its still a funny shape after 15 yrs! but not a patch u on, ouch!!!!
-
Do they do goat whisperers as well as horse whisperers?
In my experience, goats respond better (or at all) to being shouted at than whispered to... As a last resort, of course. But I think it's what being "top goat" is about; in a natural environment the leader won't go up to unruly members of the flock and give them a quiet word in the ear - they'll use their horns, if they have any!
Don't know about horses, though.
-
ref horse whisperers - are u wanting a trainer associated with monty roberts (the real macoy) if so contact intelligent horsemanship, wev used them with a young stallion so would recommend them, all about training in horse language. they have associates nationwide.
or r u after a horse psychic?? theres a lady on facebook -
Whisperinghorses Equine Healing & Communication
but cant vouch for anything. goodluck.
-
thank you! i'll have a look.
i'm not terribly set on doing this, i think i know cloudy fairly well, but it was just a thought.
