Does anyone know a good source for picking so I can do bramble jelly?
Thanks Colin

bramble bushes would be a good start :roflanim: maybe south lanarkshire is not a bramble area is it not a bit early for them i have not seen any on the bushes round here :farmer:

I haven't found anywhere round here Colin where decent brambles grow, so we have a patch in our garden of cultivated ones. At the moment they have gone rampant and will have to be attacked in the winter and tamed - they have even started appearing in the tunnel. You are welcome to some rooted runners if you want to start your own patch.......especially if you dig them up yourself ;D I know you would be able to keep them under control so much better than I can - because I can't ::)
For large quantities I pick them when I am down south, just before the journey home, then boil them up as soon as I get home. They don't travel well but as long as you process them that day they are fine. I did have one batch which had started to ferment by the time I got them home and I made 'tipsy bramble jam' which was particularly delicious :yum:

tesco had some nice ones this week they are going in tomorrows crumble ;D ;D ;D
-
They're not ready yet here - I've got loads coming through under the fence from the railway line.
-
If you fancy a holiday I've got about 12 acres ::) - not counting the ones I've sprayed with weedkiller - they're just starting to come ripe here - collected a bowlful yesterday.

Thank You everybody, I will contact you fleecewife (email sent..)
Special thanks to Robert for the bramble bush reply, would never have thought.....

Ours are just starting to ripen - hopefully the birds will leave us some & the rain won't make them go mouldy - as per last year :fc:
-
There's a handful on those in my garden - and no, you can't have them - I'm waiting to get enough at least for breakfast! ;)
I've no idea what type they are - they were here when I moved in - but I suppose they should be ripening now around here in the wild, too. And we are more northern than you.
-
Oh meaney :huff: ;D
Believe it or not, I think you've had better weather than us up there over the past week or so ::) I've got loads of unripe ones in the hedge, but only a handful of ripening ones - I'm having nightmares about the weather at the moment - dreamt last night that we were going to get a tornado & snow next week :o

DON'T use the 's' word. It brings me out in the shivers. ;D

The heavy rain hasn't materialised (yet). And I'll avoid the S-word in future.... ;D

well we are getting your rain :raining: :raining: :raining:

You are welcome to it! :-J
Actually, I haven't seen any wild brambles around here, either. Need to get out more... Although I'm determined NOT to make any jam this year, I do love them for breakfast, either with yoghurt or porridge!

Blackberry liquer, blackberry syrup (lovely with hot water and a dash of brandy on a winter's evening) blackberry wine. You can dry them too along with apples for winter puddings. :yum: :yum:
