Hi all.
Moved here 3 years ago, to a derelict house and some land overlooking the sea, which means some very strong winds!!
Idea was to renovate house in a couple of years, that was before we started to grow our own vegetable, free range eggs, lamb (Ryeland and some Dorset) and pork (Saddleback) not to mention the fencing and gates etc. So the house is still an ongoing project and we’re still learning as we go with the stock.
It is the ‘Good Life’ lots fun, hard work, joy and despair (especially at lambing) but it’s what we wanted to try. Life is fuller and simpler, going back to basics is great, we don’t even miss the television, after all when would we have the time to watch it.
Prior to moving here I’ve never even touch a pig or a sheep so there was (and still is) a lot to learn, so I’ll be happy to learn and share as much as possible.

Hi, Sounds like things are going well - it is fairly normal to put the animals first, my husband and I are still living in a mobile home 5 years on, but the stock sheds are all completed and fab accommodation.
Whereabouts in N. Cornwall are you? Obviously by the coast, and don't worry, here in North Devon, living on top of a hill not too far from Exmoor, we get pretty windy too!!
Never mind, we'll soon be enjoying the lovely hot summer that the forecasters have promised us?!?!??!??!??????????????????????????????????

Hi from West Cornwall - we are also on the start of a similar project to you - our 4 acre smallholding had a derelict cottage on it- since buying it the cottage has been levelled and we have erected a barn, we have a static caravan for living in while we embark on the building project - but the pigs, sheep, chickens and dogs will be first!!! Luckily the caravan is well appointed - oil fired central heating, dishwasher, fridge freezer and a woodburning stove so not too bad ;D
Hope all goes well - and if you have any tips about dealing ith strong winds we'd be very glad to hear them :o
