Hi Goosepimple - Mortimer (he's registered) would probably enjoy a holiday but I am probably too far from you - when would you be hoping to obtain the ram? November?

I know someone near here with Soay tups.  They won't be reg but are eligible if you paid for registration.  She would be happy to sell or to loan I'm sure.    Do you want me to check it out?

Because of the small gene pool you really need to check a kinship report with the proposed ram and your own bloodlines, If you're in the castlemilk soc , then Sue Roberts will give you a detailed analysis report to make sure they are not too closely related.

She isn't doing it because she has kept several tups but doesn't use them all and certainly couldn't afford to pay to register them all on the offchance that someone might want to borrow one.   You can't do the registration - it would have been a case of you giving her the money and asking her to do it.

Hopefully someone else will come up with what you want.

Hi Goosepimple- if you are struggling why don't you consider buying a ram lamb? (easier to manage and you could sell/slaughter after growing a bit). I got a registered Castlemilk Moorit ram lamb with that in mind last November and he covered 5 of my 6. I am in Sheffield and would consider loaning my tup...or maybe selling him in late November as I will need to change him next year (but probably too far)...unfortunately I castrated the ram lambs!
cheers

Thank you Fieldfare.  The way our land lies means it would be far too risky to keep any permanent male - only a question of time before he realises he could cross our river in drier weather and into the ladies field where we have soays, moorits and ronaldsays.   We could raise the fence levels of course but likely we'd get the gold medalist in the high jump  :innocent:

Thank you though.
