Title: Gander with dropped tongue
Post by: jaykay on August 29, 2012, 09:42:28 pm
You know how pelicans have that big saggy bit for holding fish - and it seems to be made out of skin between the two struts of their bottom beak?

Well, my Steinbacher gander seems to be developing a small version  :-\ It seems to be his tongue pushing into the pouch and it's getting worse. Apart from not looking pretty I think it can't help him eat.

Anyone had experience of it or know how it can be fixed?

Has he got something wedged under his tongue. Have a good look inside his mouth. It will probably need two of you, one to hold and one to look. Take a torch and have a good old look around. Other than a foreign body or maybe a growth, I haven't a clue. :fc:  for your gander.

I've grabbed him and had a look but no growth and nothing stuck  :-\

Is he eating and drinking ok? If yes, I would just watch him for a few days, if no, I would whizz him along to the vet. Sorry I can't be of more help.
