If any one else stole from their employer they would be instantly dismissed and prosecuted. Why do these bunch of thieving Gypsy's get off with their corruption and blatant dis respect for their constituents?
-
IMHO the government in this country think themselves above the law and any kind of retribution. They are supposed to run the country for the benefit of the people, but that's just bull**** - they run it to suit themselves !!!
Unless there's a massive uprising against the 'system' this is going to go on and on until our once great country resembles a third world country, with no crops, livestock or financial security (oops - that's happened already !)
But I don't really see a way out of this situation, they DON'T listen to our views and until someone knocks their heads together they are going to continue taking big salaries and sitting back with a G&T while all us 'common folk' struggle on dealing with their mess !!! ???
-
Totally agree with you there. What's really sickening is the half hearted 'I'm soooo sooorrry' now they've been caught red-handed helping themselves to public money without so much as a second thought. Like you said, if it were you or me we'd be out of a job and probably in jail!
-
yes ...and when they were first 'outed' how they would answer with a grin on their face saying "I have done nothing wrong , everything is within the rules" , at least the grin has gone from most of the faces now !!! only to be replaced by a look of total disdain by some , as if to say " how dare you ask me such questions , who do you think you are ?" well that has gone mostly now too. Now there is a look of fear , why fear ? , because they can see their gravy train stopping . No doubt some will go and become Euro MPs now ....they get even more money there for doing even less. If you want to become a millionair in 9 months ...become a Euro MP. There should be an inquiry into this fraud , run by everyday people , going back 10 years ....and all found guilty should pay back every penny they have swindled out of US . The money recovered would keep the NHS going for ten years ..... What got me was Gordon Brown saying " we know this is wrong , and we are doing something about it !!!" ,trying to sound all good and pius. If they knew it was wrong why have they been stealing from us all this time ... why only do something about it when you are caught ? . Most of the thieving, lying ,conniving, slimy, despicable bast*rds will get away with it as they always do .. but at least they have been shown for what they are, crooks , thieves , parasites !!!!!!! They must all be taking violin lessons from Nero .....whilst grabbing as much as they can before the country goes BANG ..
cheers

It's all very well giving it back BUT.......... they shouldn't have taken it in the first place. AND (now you've got me started! :o) ) they don't care a s£$t about the "common" people. Since just before Christmas I have had b*&^%$y freight trains going past my bedroom window - 7 metres away - all night and can't get sleep. Do they care? Not bl*&%y likely! But just wait, fate will take a hand - it always does. These folk will get their comeuppance one day! >:(
-
I couldn't believe it when they said they had broken no rules, the system had failed to police their claims! oh right so if I dont pay my vat and get away with it its the revenues fault for not collecting it!! Cool ;D theiving bunch of B**%$£ds! They should pay it all back with a penalty and interest and lose their jobs! Why do they need second homes anyway!
-
Bring back the Monarchy!!
We only get Democracy for a few weeks every four years anyway. I'd rather a well-educated,qualified racist rule me than someone who only qualified in public speaking and who has a spin-doctor and a stylist on their payroll.
Might I suggest we all vote for Screaming Lord Sutch (if he's still around) at the next election (would love to see the decor of No.10 if he did win!!)
-
they will get away with it ...take Mandelson , been sacked, kicked out in disgrace at least twice now for at very best extremely iffy goings on . But once again ..they make their own rules and he got away with it , became a euro mp , printing even more money ....then was asked back in again by GB.... ( it had been long enough and the people would have forgotten his last theft and fraud !!!! , allegedly !!) and for leaving the EU government he got a £1 million handshake.....not bad eh ?.... What is coming out now is just the tip of the iceberg , just been the first resignation from the Conservatives ,a married couple each claiming for different second homes ??????????and now that the spotlight has been pointed at them they realize it is wrong ??????, why the F*** didn't they realize before now ?(truth is they did , but were getting away with it ), 8 years they have been doing this !!!! Make them all pay ALL the money back , sack them, and ban them from all public service jobs forever !!!! Stuff this name and shame crap !!!! How to start to clean things up ??? Vote UKIP in the EU elections , get us OUT of the EU and then we will be in control of our own lives again , we can then rebuild what was once a great place the UK . I don't mean rule the world , but govern ourselves , work with Europe and whoever else we want to . If we don't get control back then there are some very nasty alternatives bubling up beneath the surface. But first we need all the crooks out of our government ( the place would be empty !!) and then we need out of the EU ( if you think our government is on the make and crooked , take a good look at the EU, you ain't seen nothing yet !!!).
cheers
Russ
ps : Screaming Lord Such passed away some time ago now sadly . But as for the racist ruling ...you may well get your wish mate ... The BNP are gathering huge numbers of followers . I know people who joined them a few years ago due to the complete mass invasion of people from abroad. When they joined there were only a hundred or so people at meetings , now the venues have changed and there are a few thousand. There is a very dodgy undercurrent going on , one that is getting close to becoming a tsunami !!! as for the Monarchy , well once we are in the EU totally ie from next year on , they will be defunct , you cannot have a King or Queen ruling under EU law . You can only have a Prince or Princess.....so Queenie is the end of the line chaps....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8039273.stm
a little glimpse at what they have been spending OUR money on for years .....all within the rules ....all perfectly acceptable ....all completely reasonable ..... If that were really true , why ? are they groping for their cheque books ? Well a few are .. some are still saying they have done nothing wrong !!!!! Time will tell.

No point making a fuss...Don't vote the thieving barsteward back in next election..And while we on the subject..How much does this bloody royal family cost us...FOR WHAT!!! ::)
-
Serious, folks, was anybody really surprised? I've NEVER had any illusions about politicians of any coleur since I developed an interest in society as a teen - once they're in they're on the take. And they fight bloody wars that nobody wanted - in whose interest??? They're the same wherever you look. I'm not holding my breath when the one person we have hopes for at the moment is going to blow it....
I still vote (for what I think is the smallest evil at the time). Probably less Gypsies are thieves than politicians, James!
:&>
-
judging by the amount of traveling they are doing from one second home to another , they are Gypsies anyway ????? however, to utter the word GYPSIES in the same sentence, in comparison to any politician, is an insult to the Gypsy race of people .
cheers
Russ
-
won't do it again, Russ...:&>
-
I should think not too..... ;D....I wasn't having a dig James ::) I should have put a smiley on there... ::) I tend to answer posts while popping in and out during the day , without reading through what I write .... smacked wrists all round mate .....take care ...

as alan sugar would say "for thieft and deception your fired", all expense accounts should be scrunitised for the last 10 years, pay back whatever they were "entitled to", only give them a % (15%) of their pension, do not allow them to hold a public office position again, publish every MPs claimed expenses for the last 10 years.
hey im irish what do i care.
-
As I am of a great age the MP on the take does not surprise me. However .... I find it insulting when the MPs are compared to pigs. Pigs have standards!!!!!!
-
Its them and us, always has been, always will be unless the common man fights back for his rights to have a lawfall fair country. But I would not hold your breath on that ever happening >:(
-
I could only speak for myself there, Russ!
It all just comes down to pure greed. Do they really all think that they don't earn enough to serve the people? Now the talk is to scrap expenses and raise their salaries instead? :&>
-
Want to see a list op MP's who haven't been milking expenses, they should be highlighted as the rest are on the take. I used to get a lot of expenses but they all had codes and were scrutinised by higher powers,I would not have claimed for some things they have, how dare they claim for unnecessary stuff, we have to put money aside for added extras like Garden stuff, furnishings and Whisky....hang on Whiskey may be an essential item!!!!!!
-
the expense system sort of came about in the late sixties , but it was for normal expenses really then . The system that is now being abused was created in the late seventies early eighties by Maggie Thatcher and co . It was at a time when there was a lot of tension and upheaval , remember those days ...? , a general pay squeeze was in force and the MPs used it as a secret way to increase their wages without the public knowing . They could then say " we aren't having any pay increase so why should you ?" . They now stand there in complete belief that a person just cannot live on a wage of £63,000 a year, the basic for the lowliest MP, yet they still think they are in touch with their constituents ????? I wonder what would happen if all the people who are disgusted with the way the politicians are draining the coffers of our money realized that Euro MPs are doing exactly the same only on a much larger scale ? Basic wage of about £83,000 expenses of about £182,000, £40,000 a year allowance for a nominated office in their house ie the loo ??? first class daily travel allowance , which could be £1000+ and a sign in fee for every time they sign in to EU parliament , I think that was about £375 . Many travel to the EU parliament sign in and go home again, not bad for a days work eh £1,375+. They can become a millionair in 9 months !!!! Many people will think "so what that is Europe" ...well we are now part of it and pay for the privilege, so it is OUR money that is paying for all their money too........just like UK politicians . Vote UKIP , get us out of the EU , and then kick out the thieving bast*rds that are stealing our money , and let the EU sort itself out !!!
cheers
Russ

It starts on the local level - our local paper published a list last year with the Councillers' expenses (!!). Trouble is, it's not illegal, is it even fraud? Just milking the anonymous masses because they think they are due that money for "the good work" they do. Anybody ever been to a council meeting, lol!
-
I would vote for UKIP on the EU policy, but I can't bring myself to vote for a party who's entire energy policy is based on coal and nuclear!
Dave

We should all be called the cowering masses.....we bleat (sorry sheep!), we moan, we complain....and then we do nothing about it. Todays headlines are, after all, tomorrows kitty litter! Steal a pack of sausages (and crappy commercial ones at that!) and you get hauled through the courts, steal a few thousand from the tax payer and soon it's yesterdays news. Ever seen a disgraced politician on the dole queue, I think not.
The best laugh I had all week was when a pensioner went to the Allied Irish bank stockholders meeting and started hurling rotten eggs.... as we say over here in the emerald isle, fair play to him.
I once saw a disgraced former T.D. (M.P.), who was declared bankrupt, driving a top of the range Mercedes jeep.....oh how I wish I were bankrupt!! Our Taoiseach (prime Minister) gets paid more than Barrack Obama, and Gordon brown for that matter!!
If we take to the streets the police (undeservedly) get the brunt of our fury....oh to throw a few well placed rotten eggs at the deserving few.
-
how about checking up on the councilers and judges expenses and perks as well? >:( >:( :dunce:
-
cant believe they are trying to pass the buck on yer man the speaker of the house.
talk about scapegoats.
-
It's turned into another witch hunt. It's like they are hoping that if they get rid of this man the problem will go away. How wrong they are - again!
-
Hooray, my local MP - Linlithgow East and West Falkirk Labour MP - Michael Connarty (should that be Con-artiste) has just been rumbled. Sold his house and pocketed a further £4k for the furniture in it, then went on to claim more expenses for new furniture - which was delivered to a thrid property in Glasgow - not any of his official addresses!!
I hate this man, he is an odious wee toley and i'll be contacting the local police station to make a formal compaint about him defrauding the government and tax payers.
I'll also be contacting the labour party - locally and nationally. And of course, i'll drop Alec Salmond a wee email and hopefully he'll use it to promote further independence form westminster as well as show up the labour party for teh unionist wasters that they all are!!! FREE THE PEOPLE!!
ha ha ha ha ha ha, i'm delighted, i hope he's out on his job and feeling the pinch like so many others just now.
sorry, rant over, i'll leave further political comment at the door, but i couldn't resist this one!!!
-
It's no flippin witch hunt - it's about time he went. He's a good soul, does a lot of good in the community I believe but he defended these greedy beggars when it first came out. He has no authority either - they cheek him right left and centre, so he MUST go!
-
of course he must go but what i have a problem with is all the other MPs jumping on the get him out and your problem is solved bandwagon. All those MPs who stood up and asked for his resignation should be probed.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/chief-whip-under-fire-over-pound18000-food-claims-1687281.html
that is the man who is investigating MPs claims.....OMFG ...they STILL do not get it do they ....they are so corrupt and so far removed from real life, they really do think that they are doing nothing wrong ....18,000 on FOOD over 4 years ???????? WTF does the fat bast**d eat 2lb of caviar and chips every night ???? Even Gordon Brown is still just saying we must be transparent and change the expenses system ....NO YOU GREEDY SH*TE ..... you are already getting enough money ... bin the expenses system altogether....Basic MPs wage 67 thousand, secretaries allowance 40 thousand ( usually paid to hubby or wifey ) and a pension scheme that would cost 50 thousand pounds PER YEAR if they were in any other job . What planet are they on ????? no wonder most of them are millionairs ...
Russ
-
put nicely to the point, Russ
I got really mad when GB announced during an 11 course dinner with his "mates" that we all should avoid food waste - yes, that's the right moment to tell us, dear! :&>
-
Sellickbhoy, I must check & see if he is also our MP ......... if he is I'll be popping into Linlithgow to see Cagney & Lacey ! ............ seems like a straightforward case of fraud to me !
-
yeah, i think he is OEB

My favourite MP is back in the news again today - what a pity!
A SCOTTISH Labour MP was last night asked to explain why he billed the taxpayer £250 for an alarm clock.
Michael Connarty, the MP for Linlithgow and Falkirk East, bought the radio alarm clock from electrical retailer Comet. But the claim has raised eyebrows as there does not appear to be any alarm clock available for the price. The most expensive one currently available at Comet costs £199.
Elsewhere, the top of the range Sunrise Alarm Clock, which includes a built in stereo MP3 player and personalised dawn to dusk light simulation, costs just £115.
The only alarm clock advertised as more expensive than Mr Connarty's was a stainless steel leather-bound one available from the Queen's jewellers,Asprey, for £750.
Mr Connarty was unavailable for comment yesterday because he was leading a delegation of MPs to Stockholm.
Susie Squire from the Taxpayers' Alliance said: "This is a staggering amount to pay for an alarm clock, but it is indicative of what MPs have been doing. Mr Connarty and his colleagues need to explain themselves to the people who elected them."
Mr Connarty also claimed £1,099 for a plasma television from John Lewis and £299 on a Panasonic TV stand in 2008. A year before he claimed £69.99 for a freeview box and £379.99 for a television.
He faced further questions about the sale of his flat to neighbouring Labour MP Jim Devine in 2007 when he moved in with the MP for Glasgow South Ian Davidson. Part of the sale to Mr Devine, who was also unavailable for comment, included £4,000 for furniture in the flat, including £1,000 for a sofa bed.
Mr Devine then claimed all the money back, even though the only valuation was made by the two MPs. Mr Connarty has also been asked to explain why he made £2,181 of claims for household goods for a second home while he shared a flat with Mr Davidson for 11 months.
During this period he claimed for mortgage interest.
In January 2007 he also claimed £1,114.75 for a bed frame which was bought in Falkirk and delivered to his constituency home, which was not his designated second home. He also claimed £149 for a footstool and £649 from Reid's for the same address. There were also questions about another bed he bought in Glasgow which was then delivered to an address in the city, even though it is not his constituency.
After buying his own new second home in London for £365,000, he started claiming £1,700 a month for his mortgage interest.
Labour's whips office has also been caught up in the controversy. Watford MP Claire Ward claimed £1,150 in petty cash over eight months; Dudley North MP Ian Austin submitted two claims for stamp duty of £6,770 and £1,344; and Dawn Butler, the MP for Brent South, claimed £2,650 for a central heating system and £2,308 for a Whirlpool bath suite.
Hull North MP Diana Johnson claimed £1,000 for an architect's services, and Birmingham Hall MP Steve McCabe over claimed on his mortgage by £4,059.
Edinburgh North and Leith MP Mark Lazarowicz has offered to pay back some expenses before the details of his claims have even come out.
Hogg to go
DOUGLAS Hogg, the Tory MP whose claim for clearing the moat at his country estate came to symbolise the excesses of MPs' expenses, is to stand down at the next general election.
He said he was making clear his intentions to give his local constituency party in Lincolnshire time to select a candidate for the election.
"I entirely understand the public anger that has erupted over expenses," he conceded. "The current system is deeply flawed; we parliamentarians have got it wrong and I apologise for that failure.
"In view of David Cameron's campaign for an early election – which I strongly support – I have decided that now is the time to (say] I will not be standing in the coming election."
Mr Hogg, a former agriculture minister, argued that he had not actually claimed for the £2,200 bill for clearing the moat at his estate. But he later agreed to pay back the money after accepting that it had not been "positively excluded" from paperwork submitted in support of his allowances claim for upkeep of the estate.

I can just see loads of MPs now trying to conjure up some other crisis to take the heat from them, I doubt the European Elections will have mush of a turnout!!! Am I missing something or am I being too sceptical, I cannot see the benefits of the government giving money if you trade in an old car for a new one, I thought we were trying to cut down on waste and energy and surely, it takes lots of natural recourses and energy to produce a car! Also, where are people suppose to get the rest of the money for a new car from? The message that comes across to me is borrow some more money even though we are not sure of our jobs, yet, recycle your rubbish and do not use carrier bags just buy plastic bags for your rubbish!!! I know the car industry is needing the extra trade but a lot of industries have seen declines, what about the building trade? Where I live now a lot of industry has disappeared, mining, wool mills, breweries etc but, things are always changing due to demand and of course production. I went of politics years ago when I remembered local MP’s from being at school with me, most were show offs who just liked their own voices, I know there must be some genuine ones!!!!!! And of the subject of expenses, I remembered being challenged for claiming a mile extra as I added up the mileage wrong!!!!! All of something like 48p and my expenses for food and entertaining were very tightly capped and rightly so. I have thought all along the MP’s should have capped expenses and given the option of a flat to stay in when away from their home, I am sure the cost of converting a disused building and making it high security would be much fairer to all us tax payers..anyway, sorry for my rant but I need to have some clarity as I am not sure what is going on other than corruption!!!!!!! Phewwwwwwwwwwwww!

Someone wrote into a daily paper a while back and suggested that after the olympics the village should be turned over to the government and used by MP's when they're in London. I think that's a brill idea and would do away with the need for second home allowances.
-
Too right - the whole thing proves that most of our current MPs are corrupt - the thing that worries me though is that they don't think they are - they are all blaming "The System"
-

If Joe Bloggs, general public, takes a job in say Inverness when his home is Alloa - he takes the job on the understanding that it involves staying away from home and had to pay for any accommodation himself. MP's know if elected they will have to stay in London, give them nothing!!
-
Mutiny...where are the Pirate smilies?

don't necessarily agree with that one - plenty of people have jobs which involves travelling and staying away from home and their employer foots the bill for travel, accommodation and meals
I do think the best thing would be for the government to simply open a hotel across the street from the parliament. It would be exclusively for MP's and civil servants.
they could then control the costs/expenses/security and there would be no excuse for them not making it into parliament to do their job
If they choose to rent their own place, then they pay for it - simples.
-
portacabins - posh ones, of course :&>
-
Not even posh ones! They are only "famous" because we elected them, they're supposed to be there to serve us, not us to serve them ??? ???
-
There's an awful lot of hot feelings about this situation. These elections next month are going to be very interesting. I won't vote for the BNP because of their reputation - probably don't have a candidate anyway, but won't vote for any of the main parties - except maybe SNP. Perhaps UKIP will do well.
-
I did not realise that the information the Daily Telegraph is releasing daily was actually handed to them 5 years ago and the only reason it has only come to light now is that the Speaker (who resigned yesterday and whose name escapes me) took the Newspaper to the High Court to stop the information becoming public. The 5 year law suit incidentally paid by you and me - the tax payer. Anyway, he/the governemnet lost the case and the rest as they say is hostory. The thieving git deserves all he gets and I hope that all the others get kicked out and humiliated too.
The ironoc thing is, if this case has been dragged through the court for 5 years , every Party Leader who has stood up in public over the last few days and said they have just discovered what has been going and and they are horrified - well are they not LIARS too, No ????
-
I actually fear quite scary time ahead - politically. There seems little doubt that the general public are going to accept the crap that Gordon Brown etc. is hurling at us so change will happen. Time will tell. Good on Esther Rantzen, I believe she will make an excellent MP and good old Anne Widdecomb didn't even claim things she was supposed to. They say she is squeeky clean so well done Ms Widdecomb.
As for the European Elections, other than receive our Ballot Papers we have had nothing to tell us about who is standing so guess I won't be voting. I guess though now is the time to vote and let the buggers in Downing St feel the peoples anger,
-
There are a few who have actually not milked the system. Well done, Anne W. And she's got humour (Have I got news for you)! :&>
-
The latest £1600 for a duck house for an ornamental lake. Does this person not realise there are people who have no home at all. Let alone a second one.
On the subject of second homes, surely these are just for the MP's use during the time they are at Westminster, and not their permanent home. Ergo how can they even begin to justify the need a moat, a duck house or chandeliers? A nice flat in one of those Acton High Rises get the tube straight into Westminster, might make them realise just how the other half lives!!!!
-
I have been cynical for years, especially after I studied sociology and Social Policy, I soon realised the government are trying to con us, they put money into the latest project e.g homeless, crime, young people, children etc and they are not that bothered if they have an effect, they are more bothered with the impact setting up these policies has on the electors, trying to make themselves more popular. I have strong suspicions that figures are doctored so authorities can get more money and of course they take on problem's such as ASBO families, cared for children, persistant offenders, Asylum seekers to claim more money for them, I doubt if they spend it on them at all. Churches are as bad (sorry!!!!) they also con people!!! I will say no more on that score. My main problem is we need MP's and a fair government, I am not really sure how we will get it.brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr >:(
-
This thread has prompted me to dig out the DVD box set i got a year or so ago - Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister
Jim Hacker and the department for administrative affairs! i'm watching the episode about the empty hospital with 500 civil servants and no medical staff or patients.
Absolutely brilliant stuff - and sadly very close to the truth!
-
In most things, the Truth is stranger than fiction...I was even more shocked to find that they knew 5 years ago, I really HATE lier's.
-
second homes can be anywhere.....some of the MPs have 3,4 or 5 homes , and as each one needs decorating, a new bed or a tv or repair they 'flip' to the that one . They then get the work required done on that one then 'flip' to the next and so on . While they are doing this they are selling the improved properties all at our expense !!!!, while pocketing the profit . I think that is why Hazel Blears always has that annoying bloody grin on her smug face, even more annoying when she's standing there saying she has done nothing wrong and everything is within the rules. This where an expenses REVIEW is total crap ..... They are still stealing thousands out of our money ...BIN expenses, they are getting enough already . If they need food while staying in London , why not have a canteen ????? god forbid they should live like common people !!!! Even now they still think they are entitled to all these expenses and are just moving goalposts , only a few have given anything back !!! and many like Margaret Becket refuse totally to hand any of her £72,000 back (she even having a grace and favour apartment !!!! as well, and rented her SECOND home out, or Nick Brown any of his £87,000 . All of these thieving, lying conniving fraudsters need sacking , they are corrupt to the core . Above all else it is the total arrogance and disdain with which they answer, when questioned about there thievery . This whole situation beggars belief , not that they do it , but the attitude they take when caught doing it. Gordon Brown says he was unaware of any of this going on, CRAP , absolute sh*te, when someone becomes an MP , they are taken to one side and TOLD that they are expected to use ALL of the expenses money and how they can do it , and that if they don't, they will be letting the side down . This was said on TV by Michael Portillo on 'This Week' . This has been the situation for longer than 5 years too , at least 10 in the form it is now. Will they be taken to account on this , not really , THEY made the rules , and they , (the ones that made those rules, themselves ) are mainly solicitors, lawyers and barristers, oh and not to mention that, it is also they who nowdays put the top policemen in their jobs too.....????? I won't be expecting too many court cases over this. They are all expert violinists .... like Nero.... fiddling while Rome burns ,or in this instance while London and the rest of the UK goes down the pan , and it is they who are flushing the loo .
cheers

I want someone to buy me a second home for my ducks for £ 1600! Maybe I should just get elected. Actually a freecycled or gifted one will do us just fine...:&>

Bring back Guy Faulks ;D ;D ;D
-
Bring back Guy Faulks ;D ;D ;D
I don't think s**t burns, so most of them would survive I'm afraid
-
I heard the MP who bought the duck house being interviewed today on radio and he actually said it was nobody else's business how he spent his money and it was all Gordon Browns fault for bringing in the Freedom of Information Act. He still doesn't seem to realise it is our money!

Well lets see what affect this will have at the polling station. Perhaps 100 % turn out. Then every one can have their say.
-
!00% turnout and no one to vote for! I fully intend to use my vote but haven't a clue who to vote for, they're all as bad as each other.

I emailed my local MP about his role in this murky affair, his reply was to threaten me with legal action.
no attempt to explain, no criticism of the system, no inclination whatsoever that he has done wrong or that the current crisis has cast all MP's in a bad light, no hint of remorse or apology, no attempt to clarify the situation either.
Simply that i didn't know what i was talking about and the papers are lying and that his lawyers are very interested in my allegations of his wrongdoing.
-
Isn't that just adding insult to injury. He would have been better just not replying.
-
Anne Widdecome had an article in the Mail on Sunday where she was critisising these crooked MP's for still having their job. She was quite out spoken with her anger that these crooks seem to be "getting away with it". It appears that she is very clean in her expenses and I noted with great delight that her fee for the article was being donated to a charity of her choosing.
-
He certainly would.
I have now sent the full email transaction and the original press articles which he claims are lies back to Mr Connarty and the newspaper journalists and editors involved.
i've asked connarty to confirm the 3 articles are lies and that he has already requested a retraction or will be taking the papers to court
I've also asked the journalists/editor for comment on the veracity of their story and if it indeed was distorted to mislead their customers
and just to top it off i've copied the local labour party chairman on the email and for his thoughts on Connarty threatening to take a constituent to court in the midst of this scandal.
Could be interesting times ahead.

Well done you, I am delighted that you are prepared to go that extra mile for what you believe in. It is so easy for us all to be out raged by something but then just sit back and leave it for some one else to fight. I wish you every success.
-
Hi,
Can I add my encouragement for you to keep up the good fight - I'm utterly fed up with the supercilious and arrogant attitude of MP's when faced with criticism - who the hell do they think they are? In my former life (before smallholder days) I came into contact with a number of MP's and Cabinet Ministers from all parties; with very few exceptions, they were obnoxious, self opinionated time wasters with little or no interest in anything other than self congratulation and gaining votes.
To misquote a true statesman, "never have so few owed so much to so many"!
Regards, Farmer

And mine. I am presently fighting what a lot of my friends say is a losing battle - with Transport Scotland, DB Schenker, Clackmannanshire Council, our local MP Keith Brown, Network Rail - over the night-time running of coal trains from the port of entry from Australia (yes we get coal from Australia to run our power stations!) to Longannet power station. I haven't had a decent night's sleep since they started going through the night mid December.(my bedroom window is 7 metres from the track!) All the promoters said that there would be NO night-time running. They have picked the wrong terrier to meddle with! I will not let them away with it. Keep at it boys and girls, these people are OUR servants NOT the other way around.

Good luck to you too Annie. I was always told that if you want any action when complaining write to a senior director in the company/organisation that does not normally deal with customer complaints. Normally people that become accountants, for example, do their job safe in the knowledge that they will not have to "do" customers. So, as soon as someone writes to them and involves them they panic and as they do not know what to do or why they are being taken out of their comfort zone they kick ass so quick in the hope that they can disappear back into the background. You cause them so much stress by involving them that often you get more than you bargained for, the CEO deals with hassles every day and is more trained in that side of things. Hope this makes sense but it has worked for me in the past.
-
Each of these organisations is blaming the other so we are getting the run around - how do I find out the CEO's/Chief accountants names?
There's an Open meeting in Clackmannan Town Hall tomorrow night at 7pm , hopefully some of the big wigs will be on a panel - might be a stormy meeting, there's a lot of angry people in Alloa, Clackmannan, Kennet, Kincardine and further along the line.
-
They want to give you the run around in the hope that you get tired and go away. "Google" is a wonderful tool, that is how I find out who'se who in a large company, failing that just phone their head office and ask. Good luck for tomorrow night.
-
Good man sellickbhoy!! My hat is off to you! Lets know how you get on.
-
Any word on the legal issue, Chris?
-
naw, i've sent him an email and he's not replied yet. obviously he (or his lawyer) is a busy man so we'll wait and see.

Or perhaps he is running scared at your persistance and the fact that you didn't run away at the first threat of legal action?
-
from the tone of his reply he IMO the sort of person who thinks the world is here to bow to his every whim. No, i honestly believe he would have this pursued in court if i don't apologise. but we'll see how things pan out. I'm pretty sure that it would be political suicide to take a constituent to court in a blaze of publicity following on from teh expenses scandal in which he has been heavily criticised.
still, he's not been in the house for 17 years for nothing - he clearly knows a thing or 2 about wriggling and surviving. maybe i should pour salt on him or chuck him to the chickens
-
apologise me bollox. if this thing goes to court i'll personally start The Muiravonside One fund for court expenses.
-
I'll help spring you from jail ;D
-
ill get the "Free The Muiravonside One" placards painted
-
While you're all at it, can you start up the 'stop the night time trains' fund and placards, please. That meeting last night did nothing but allow some people to vent their feelings, and even they were daunted by the chairman who would have been at home as the head teacher in Borstal! No results really except that someone mentioned human rights. Is it a basic human right to have a decent night's sleep? Could it be upheld in the court of Human Rights?
-
is there not some kinda noise police (i know they have them in belfast they call to parties at student house's) they come out with a sound level meter and measure the decibel levels. if you dont comply and turn down the music or stop whatever noise ur making they wack you with a fine.
-
councils have enviroment officers - but i think they are to deal with noisey neighbours.
but i guess it would be a good starting point
-
Transport Scotland were laughed out of their report last night - they surveyed along the line and took noise samples at 11 houses - there must be around 1200 houses along the route, and out of that 2 houses were found to have unacceptable noise levels. My house is closer than either and they haven't been near mine. On the night the sampling was done there were three trains instead of the usual 7. Hmmmm............................. :o
-
enviroment officers there the guys i was thinking of. harrasment i feel is the only way forward from here. everytime a train goes by and your woken phone the police scourge them to get an enviroment officer out to take a sample. do this for a couple of weeks and keep records (who you talked to, times, actions taken)during the day ring the train/rail company as to speak to someone high up again take records. when nothing happenes tell the train/rail company that there is going to be an obstruction (you) on the line and see if you can get some others to do the same (one person a night for as long as you can). you dont actually have to stand on the tracks but just hover about they will have to slow the trains down possibly stop them. be prepared for being arrested for tresspassing tho and probably a few other charges. after a few of you are arrested get the media involved... story "willing to go to prison for a good nights sleep" or something like that.
-
Isn't it sad that we have to go to such extreme measures to get something as simple as a nights sleep. Relic we don't have tresspass laws in Scotland but I'm sure the authorities would get them on something else. Sounds a good plan though Annie, even if it's so extreme. Are any of the local MP's on your side? With things as they are just now any MP must be craving some good publicity with helping their constituents so hassle them too. Press coverage will be very important I would imagine. Is there an organised group of opponents, it is better to have an organised bunch rather than lots of individuals all off doing their own thing. If a thing is structured and organised then it should stand a better chance.
Any of the chiefs guys that are in support of the trains continuing could you not organise something to make the same level of noise outside their home at the same time of night as the train would pass, again you would probably be arrested but desperate measures require desperate actions? You need Public Awareness!!!!

Check out the Alloa Advertiser website boys - I was interview a couple of weeks ago. We have 2 MSPs and an MP onboard.http://www.alloaadvertiser.com/news/alloa/articles/2009/04/29/38891-night-trains-are-making-our-lives-hell/
Re we don't have trespass laws in Scotland
Network Rail do actually have the right of trespass on lines - and can fine anyone going on a line or allowing an animal to go on the line. The field across the lane from me is not securely fenced - post and 5 strand wire only, because it is classed as agricultural land at the moment (owned by a housing company) - so dogs can get through. A neighbour's dog escaped from his elderly master on there a couple of days ago, but fortunately no trains about at the time. The safety along the route is another concern.
I think we have to trust that Gordon Banks MP will do as he has said he will and get the offending companies to the table. Up to the present the moment DB Schenker and Network Rail have refused to attend any meetings. They seem to think they are working within the law, although I am now thinking that the original Bill to put the line in place was flawed due to lack of/mis- information to the Scottish Government during the consultation process. We do not want compensation, we want the trains stopped from 11pm to 6 am - but being a German company I'm not sure Schenker are interested in the little people of Scotland.
I have found numerous regular emails to one person to be effective in the past, and I intend to try that with the Schenker boss - Stuart Boner. Wish us luck, we are fighting big brutes of companies. We need people power to win through.
-
i remember seeing a thing on the news ages ago about trains going past at all hours close to a residental area. was this yous?
-
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I think GB is at the power station today!!!!don't tell anyone!!!
-
Sandy, you should know me better than to ask me to keep a secret like that!
-
Now where's the Mole smiley????
-
Yes, I want a mole smiley too! Clackmannan has it's own mole!
-
Apparently GB has not urned up!!! and blimey I am hot!!!

In the same way that :farmer: :farmer: have been ripping Tax payers off for years, polluting the countryside, harassing Ramblers and ploughing up Rights of way, grubbing up miles of ancient hedges, turning vast areas into deserts to produce highly subsidised grain mountains. Spreading Bovine TB and Foot and Mouth, and then expecting the Tax payer to pick up the Tab to compensate for dead animals. Pay insurance like the rest of us!

Don't understand this - are you referring to the discussion on night trains or to something else? Don't think paying insurance would help stop the night trains somehow ;)
-
OK, so the PM did turn up shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
-
Don't know what is so secret. They are stockpiling coal from Hunterston to Longannet so they can do their carbon thingy experiment and keeping me awake in the process! >:( >:( >:( >:(

Hi :dog: & Jo
I thought that this thread was about MPs' £££££ But it seems to have morphed into 'summat batt t'trains? :D

Thats conversation for you!!! My mind rambles freely so, I think do others, I wish my body was as active as my mind!!!!!
I suppose, regarding expenses, loads of people put in false claims and get away with it, I never did as my expenses for Social Services, were scrutinized to the penny!!! One thing I have a great deal of anger about is people who falsely claim disability related benefits and those who are suffering with injuries and disabilities do not claim but struggle on working, on this subject I could go on and on but I will not diversify...SORRY
-
I don't understand the reference to insurance in either context!
-
Nor me, that's why I asked "are you referring to the discussion on night trains or to something else"
-
We could prosecute the thiefs but that would only cost us tax payers even more.
-
I think you'l find we do pay insurance...........................you obviously have no insight of everyday farming life whatsoever!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
woohoo, Jim Devine is now in the crapper for the expenses scandal - he is of course very closely associated with my own dear MP - from whom i still haven't received any legal writs whatsoever. So time for me to go poke him again and ask him if he is starting to worry that the cushy wee number he's had for 17 years is now over
-
I haven't voted for years even though I had strong ideas of what I liked and did not like but now!!!! who would you choose, time to decide. I think Mps should be accountable to thier public and so get voted out if they are not doing thier job. If there are any MPs on this site I have a question..."Is it really such a hard job?"
-
I heard on the radio this morning, and it did make me laugh, next week is officially the week where we should be praying and offering support for our politicians. What crap will they some up with next? It's a wonder the greetings card makers don't have printed cards for this occasion!
-
Don't these as* holes never learn?
MPs have introduced new rules that allow them to claim £25 a night without producing a receipt.
The subsistence allowance, worth £9,125 a year, can be claimed for food and drink any night they spend away on business and was introduced this month in a new parliamentary green book.
The rules appear to have been approved without any debate in the Commons before MPs left for the summer recess.
In the wake of the expenses scandal in April, MPs voted for a series of measures that included the requirement of receipts for everything claimed.
-
in a word NO ... approve the rule before the summer break, then after 82 days, those thickies (us) will have something else to worry about ....in the mean time we get even more money .....seems to be the way they think ? ... they couldn't give a flying **** really . Push Push Push , and they will always get away with it ! The only way round it is to kick up a fuss and try to vote them out . They are now in such a mindset, that they truly believe they can do what they want , and do , and we allow them to do so . Bring on the revolution .....oh no ... they have that covered now too ...anti terrorism laws....but even with those laws , I can see a day, not too far away, when , TSWHTF....
cheers

mrs Pankhurst must be turning in her grave!

this is enough to make me puke ... MP's give themselves even more money in expenses and yet today the MOD (government) are going to court to appeal moneys being paid to injured soldiers , some with terrible injuries . Soldiers , some just young boys , THEY have sent to fight in these idiotic, no point wars. The bastards make me sick . It should be law that MP's should do a frontline tour in any war zone . Whats the betting we wouldn't go to war anywhere then ???

All vote for Esther Rantzen!!!
-
:)yeah!!!
-
I see she is getting quite fiercly "attacked" from all angles as they are saying she has no Policies or Manifesto. I honestly think she stands a very good chance as she comes over as some one the public know, and trust. Besides a vote for her is a vote less for some other thieving self centred git.
-
Also, as she is in the public eye, she will/should be open and honest, the good traites I respect in people!!
-
she can't be any worse than the current mob of professional politicians.
so what she has no manifesto or policies - how many politicians actually stand by their pre election promises?
i'd rather a non affiliated MP who acted based on the feedback from their constituents than a party line towing suit waiting for a promotion
-
My thoughts entirely, at least Ester is famous already. I think a lot of politicians just like the sound of their own voice and also want the power. When I reached my 40's I saw some people standing for the local elections that I knew from School days, they were all show offs ;D ;D

this is just taking the p*ss

These greedy shower of ba****ds that we call Mp's just do not learn from their mistakes or greed do they? Taken from the BBC news web site.
Senior Tory wants MP pay doubled
Sir Patrick Cormack says he wants to restore public confidence
A senior Conservative has called for MPs' pay to be doubled - in return for scrapping their second home allowance.
Sir Patrick Cormack says MPs annual pay should increase from £64,766 to more than £130,000.
He was condemned as "out of touch" by Labour, while Lib Dem Foreign Affairs spokesman Ed Davey said the veteran Tory "must be living on Planet Zog".
But Sir Patrick said he was standing by the call, made in a submission to the Committee on Standards in Public Life.
The committee, chaired by Sir Christopher Kelly, is carrying out a full investigation of MPs pay and allowances and is due to report later this year.
