Title: Wing clipping????
Post by: paulsou on May 13, 2009, 09:52:45 pm
Being new to chickens i have got electric netting coming & i have been told the best way to prevent chickens from flying over net is to clip wings, what is the best way to do this?

go very carefully you want to stay above where the feather stem changes colour. if you mess up the chicken will bleed quite badly. only do it if you have to.

The longest known flight of a chicken is 47 seconds - just where can they go in that time?  No point in clipping wings,  I did one of mine thinking she was flying over the gate - wrong!!! She is jumping! ;) ;D

this is true even with there wings clipped our turkeys could get on the roof. With birds like geese its a must well it is up here or they would be off at the first gust. we have had to recover the geese from neighbours flower gardens half a mile away.
