I had a form come through from DVLA Swansea with Saturdays post , didn't bother opening it until this morning,
Turns out I have to send a new photograph for my licence as the last one is 4 years old , or surrender my licence.
How much do they think your features alter in 4 years?. Oh Yes , almost forgot, the cost for replacement licence : £20. ------On top of the cost of the photo from one of those booth thingies, then in 4 years time I will have to do it all over again when I'm 70.
When I passed my test aged 17 you were licened till you were 70,
That's a lot of cash to find from a state pension , especialy if you live as isolated as we do and have to drive as there is no public transport.
This is just more government money grabbing from soft targets----THIEVING BASTARDS.

thought photos were valid for 10 years???
-
I know, I just had to do mine. 10 years old my pic was I think. I thought it was a lot of money too ::) And yes, living here there is no choice but to drive.
-
Yes, I thought it was a new photo every 10 years too. It was definitely 10 years from my first one to my second. I was quite glad when 10 years was up- my first driving licence picture was awful!

Flipping heck just remembered we had one of those letters ages ago, never followed it up and not heard anything else from them :-\
-
I've had mine for 6 years. I thought they would last longer than 4 years.
When you consider that you have to get a passport, with photo, for a tiny baby which lasts for ten years when you consider how much that child will have changed in that time, four years seems ridiculous. Doug, I can't imagine you ever changing.
A friend once asked me to sign her driving license photo for her. I had to really wrestle with my conscience before I could write that it was a true likeness. If I had picked it up in the street, I would have thought it was a stranger, not one of my closest friends.

I had to change my address when we moved here 4 years ago , it was a new photo then,,,,looks like rip off time again

Hi,
The photocard licence is definitely valid for ten years - until the licence holder reaches 70.
There are some medical conditions that can mean the driving licence is restricted to what is called a 'short period driving licence'.
If you are neither 70 nor have had such a medical condition, I think a call to Swansea is in order. Perhaps they have made an error. Their phone number is :0300 790 6801
Hope this helps

We have just changed address on ours (OH and myself) and photos were nearly 7 years old and were not asked to produce new ones. Def think you should query it with Swansea ???

Please be aware that the categories you have on your driving licence before they are sent to DVLA with a new photo can be deleted and if you do not take a copy (best to scan it)of them before you send them away you have no way of proving that these categories exsisted >:( . The reason for them deleting them is, yep you guessed it money. ??? I made sure that our was photocopied and kept and when returned plus 40 quid lighter i immediately checked to see it still included everything we had on them.

Thanks for the heads up Tiz. I changed address/new photo license 3 years ago. I'll expect the letter then? What a rip off. Think I'll head it off with a letter to my MP.

I changed my address 4 and a half years ago and didn't have to submit a new photo, and wasn't charged anything. Wonder if they've changed the rules.
-
I changed my address recently. The original pic was 5 years old but I wasn't asked to produce a new pic either. Yes, Doug, ring them to be certain.

Tiz, i've just got stung for it this month....BUT to make matters worse i did it via the post office (as i needed to go to Wynnstays) and got charged another 4.50....£24.50 for something that stays in the draw.
and i've noticed my passport has just run out.... £77.50
Whoa is me.... :roflanim: :roflanim:

A friend of mine has the old pink licence, as a lot of people probably have. He recently had to fill in a form and get a photo and get one of the new style licences. Not sure why they picked on him, we never got a letter asking for a photo. I assume he had to pay something for that, but did not ask.
