Thoughts please ... we have 2 Bagot goatlings which are available to us and we're going to see them in a couple of weeks. Have wanted Bagots for years now so looking forward to it - we've kept goats for 3 years now.
I am going through a 'really want to start milking and dairying' phase just now though in an effort to reduce our food bills and feed other livestock. I am always wary of phases though and will see this one through the winter months and how I feel about it then before I commit.
Just wondering if anyone knows the yield of a Bagot - I know it will certainly be lower than the traditional milking goats and I'm ok with that I'll just work with what we have - but just wondering about quantity / quality / user friendly in the process of etc Bagots would be...anyone know?

Really don't know.You could be "lucky" and get the ones that were crossbred to anything available in the 70's (I'm saying nuffink ::) ) or they could be one of the few purebred ones around in which case they have never been bred for milk

Hmm, yes they will be purebreds as they are coming from an RBST farm park, maybe its just an excuse to have more of them so I could get more yield :innocent:

Well having just seen a couple of Bagot kids today - unfortunately not for me - I would say just get another GP - they were beautiful - unfortunately the owner had a sharp eye on me and the kids were just a wee bit too bit to stuff under my jumper ........... I did think they were great

Just because they come from an RBST farm park doesn't mean they are "purebred",it was the RBST who advised people to out cross them in the first place!I well remember Alpine,AN,and unregistered A.O.V's being used why on earth when there were plenty of Bagot look alike running round Snowdon ::) (Most of them better marked "Bagots" than Bagots!)

Oh yes I see! Very, very impressive! We are just trying to do our bit for the RBST and fit in with what we are doing here. So long as their genetics are up to RBST standard I will be convinced. And hopefully they will give some milk. :o

We've got classes for Bagot goats at the Festival. It would be really neat if we got some entries :fc:

Oooh, now if we have them by that time I may bring them along ... just depends when the farm park will let them go, keep you posted.

Don't have any for ages then 12 come along at once. Have on offer a 2 and a 10 herd. Hmmm.....
