I have some beef tomatoes (marmande I think) in my polytunnel and after a slow start they now have plenty of fruit, however the first tomato on each plant looks wierd, it is partially burst and you can see the seeds, they seem to have grown around the stem and look sort of inside out. The rest of the toms loook fine and i wondered why this happened and whetyher i should remove deformed fruits so as to let the plant put all its energy into feeding the healthier looking ones

We have had this with Marmande too they also tend to grow nipple like protrusions as well, we were told it was because of erratic watering and not enough strong sun (they are a mediterranean breed?). we just took any duds off and fed them to the pigs who love 'em!

I would say it's irregular watering, except my hydroponic tomatoes have all done it this year! They are French too! Now where's that smiley with a beret on?

I did wonder if it was erractic watering, although my polytunnel dosent really dry out and on 4 plants i have an odd one on each. any way off to cut them off-unfortunately my pigs are not in a situation to eat them (freezer!)

You don't need pigs to use them up. Try tomato chutney :) :yum:
