Title: a re-hello
Post by: southernskye on August 10, 2012, 10:05:02 am
Good day one and all.

Not really an introduction as I did that before, some time ago.
At the time, the other year, it was a while before the Welsh smallholder show. My house was for sale and I was "dreaming -the-dream" again. but things got to me a little, the dream was still a dream despite many years of planning/dreaming/pondering......and it remained a dream. There was no light at the end of the tunnel. I switched off from smallholding as I felt I was getting nowhere and it was driving me up the wall. I needed to stop the thoughts as it was getting a wee bit depressing.

Now there is still no light at the end of the tunnel but, that is because there is NO tunnel  ;D  !
The house sold and another lucky couple have it and are, as the wife did, running a B&B operation from there. We have moved a very short distance, less than half a mile! But we have a beautiful house in a fabulous place (although Skye can be a bit damp on occasions this year has been the best summer for decades.......sorry to those of you in the normally less soggy areas of the UK). great garden we have and i have a couple of acres of quite reasonable croft-land to play with.

No light at the end of the tunnel, no tunnel, I have reached my destination  ;D  !
2 acres to play with, enough for a start, joined the SCF and have my local eyes and eares open for a chance to snaffle/rent/beg/borrow/share some more croftland near to home.

So now I return to TAS with a light heart full of hopes for the future. I still have to work away for the remainder of this year as I am signed-up to a contract and always see them through. But 2013 is another sory.

Since I was 35 it has been a promise that I would stop my current trade and do something totally different. outside work, physical work (before I get too old to start it ;)  ). That I would have some land and be able to work it, to grow on the land and with the land. To produce for ourselves.

Finally I am there. I am now 45 so I did not quite make the promise but, if I bend the rules slightly I will still BE 45 by the time I actually start. I can live with that slight rule-bend.

So, I would like to offer my apologies to one and all for vanishing as I did. I hope you understand my reasons and how I was feeling? I would also like to say to other dreamers that it DOES happen. it may take longer than you planned for, but it does become reality. When it does, after such a long wait, it is all the sweeter.

Unfortunately I cannot make the First Scottish Smallholder show this year but may I offer my HUGE congratulations to one and all for the effort involved in reaching such a goal. Please let it be a great success so I can come next year :fc: .

So, I now go to browse the forum, I have started to generate lists of questions which, as all us "freshers" say, may seem daft so forgive the ignorance.

very best of wishes from a very happy, constantly smiling
SouthernSkye.

Welcome back Southernskye - that's great news, just goes to show - get there in the end. Hope you have lots of fun getting set up - although five years down the road I still feel like I'm setting up or maybe I'm just changing things around!!
