Title: Sow walking on front legs
Post by: benkt on August 06, 2012, 09:53:01 am
Its not a party trick, one of our sows is only walking on her front 'elbows' but using back leggs normally if that makes sense. She started yesterday morning after being moved to a new paddock. I washed her trotters and had a good look for injuries, swelling or stiffness but she seemed fine. Yesterday afternoon she was back up on all four trotters as usual butthismorning was crawling around again. Any ideas what's wrong or what else I could try?

If you have checked there is nothing outwardly wrong with the trotter in the way of cuts, sores etc what you describe can be a sign of laminitis, prognosis not good. Speak to your vet.
Sorry Mandy :pig:

i have to agree with mandy sounds very much like laminitis whilst rare in pigs it usually ends in the animal being destroyed best get the vet in.
