Poor Mr Tumble (wee ginger tom kitten that appeared here just after Xmas) has come in today limping really badly. :(
His front paw is hanging limply from his 'knee' down and he's not weight bearing on it. He wouldn't let me near him earlier to examine it, but we've managed to get hold of him for a closer look and there's possibly a break and what looks like a definate bite mark. :'( :'( :'(
I have a suspect in mind (it's not Boris cause the mark would have been waaaaaay bigger and Boris is scared of all the cats anyway ::)) and hopefully the vet will confirm tomorrow whether it was a dog or not - but just to try and rule out possibilities - has anyone seen foxes attack cats ? Would a foxes jaw be about the same size as a small Jack Russel Terrier ?
-
Sorry to hear about Mr Tumble HH :cat: I hope he mends quickly. If he has a puncture bite then he needs antibiotics today. Check with the vet who will be able to tell you if any of the antibiotics you have in stock will be suitable, to give him today, before you get to the vet tomorrow.
I haven't seen a fox attack a cat but I've definitely seen a cat attack a fox and not come off worst. Maybe that's what happened with Mr Tumble, but the fox bit back.
:fc: :cat:

I hope Mr Tumble is ok. :fc: Give him an extra cuddle from me.
-
Thanks Sally :-*
Juliet, I only have Alamycin here (it's not licenced for cats :-\) do you think a spray of purple antibiotic spray would be enough ? I have that here.
Think I may just give the vets another wee phone
-
What did the vet say? The trouble with a puncture wound is that bugs from the spike/teeth/whatever get injected deeply into the flesh so a surface clean or spray will not reach the depths. Then the surface tends to heal over and the bugs are left deep inside and turn into an abscess. Cats are particularly prone to abscesses caused in that way.
:fc: for Mr Tumble :cat:

Hope he is okay. :fc:
Watched one of my cats chasing a fox on one occasion. Fox showed no aggression. They both looked as though they were playing and enjoying it.
Have heard it said that a fox will kill and eat a cat in hard winter weather ??? but I'm not sure that is true.
They do seem prone to getting abscesses ..... mine have had many after fighting other mogs. Can you bathe and keep wounds open until you can get the antibiotics?

Poor Mr Tumble. Hope all goes well for him at the vets. :fc:

Poor mr tumble :bouquet:
My instinct would say cat bite causing a cat bite abscess. But without seeing the injury may be totally wrong. Is he neutered.
Cat bite abscesses are very common in unneutered, often mistaken for broken legs due to pain and swelling. Still neutered cats can suffer if an unneutered cat is local :-\
Hope mr tumble is sorted quickly :fc:
-
Best wishes for Mr Tumble :-* :cat:
It's not just unneutered toms who fight - I used to have the most beautiful black-and-white neutered boy who was a total pugilist. Always scrapping and getting wounds and abcesses. Vet gave me antibiotic pills to keep on hand in the end. And used to get me to swill the wounds with salty water every day - "Really get in there and dig around", he'd say.
-
You can irrigate a puncture/bite wound by squirting saline into it with a syringe without the needle - but I get the impression Mr Tumble wouldn't stay still long enough for that ;D . As your vet says Sally - you really need to get in there and flush everything out, allowing the wound to heal from the bottom up.
Hoping he's ok and gets well soon :cat:
ps love the idea of a cat who's a total pugilist, with his boxing gloves on, taking on all comers :D
-
That's what I was taught to do with saline Fleecewife, for a bite wound.
Helps if you can wrap the cat in a towel, with only the bit that needs attending to sticking out :D
How's Mr T doing today?

Cat wrapping is an art form ;D :cat: :o ;D

That can't be a real cat - where are the ten thousand whirling claws, not to mention the look of total betrayal? ;D
-
HH how did Mr Tumble get on at the vets? :fc:
-
Sorry folks - it's been mad here (yes, more than usual ::) :D)
The vet reckons it's been a cat fight (so that let's the neighbour's dog off the hit list :D) The leg's not broken, but there is an infection and it's possibly around the joint :-\
Superstrong antibiotics and an anti-inflamitory and he's managing to put weight on it now
She's hopefull that it'll be enough to fix the problem, but we've to give it a week to 10 days to see for sure.
Lots of reiki and cuddles for Mr T for the forseeable (not that he's objecting ;))
Thanks for your good wishes :-*
-
Great news that the leg isn't broken. Here's hoping for a speedy uncomplicated recovery for the little chap. Lots of kitty e-cuddles ((((( :cat: ))))) from Yorkshire.
-
Oh that's good news HH, that it's not actually broken. We've all been worried about the wee man :cat: Keep up the cuddles and reiki
-
Glad to hear Mr T is ok.
I have heard of foxes attacking and killing cats, mainly city foxes though. Our two cats got into a bad fight when we lived in London, vet thought it may have been a fox. I always tried to make sure they were in over night.
Hope Mr T recovers quickly!

visiting toms can be killers we once had the head bitten of a kitten definitely a tom cat done it it did not get to spread its genes any more foxes like to roll on a dead cat :farmer:
-
:bouquet: Mr Tumble. Cat bites are very dirty, so he'll need those antibiotics, poor wee fella. Glad he seems to be on the mend. :-*
-
There's nothing worse to cause infection than a bite wound. Get well soon mr tumble :cat:
-
Hope Mr Tumble is soon better :bunny: (that's the gift of a bunny to make him feel better)
-
Is Mr Tumble now back to full health HH?
-
Yes he is NM, thanks for asking  :-*
He's made such a good recovery that he can go and get castrated :innocent: :roflanim: Don't think he'll love me much after that ::) But if it reduces the chance of another cat bite which gets infected it's a small price to pay ;)
I'll try and get a photo of him later, he's a beautiful boy now - though that wasn't the case when he arrived just after Xmas as a wee 4 or 5 week old stray, riddled with worms and fleas and just hours from death's door, but luckily he pulled through :relief:
-
Henry....(have you seen Henry, I posted a piccie of him on the Members forum, if not see below) is such a daddy's boy that I told my hubby that he will have to take him to the vets to have his bits off. That way, I may stand a chance of getting some affection from him! He only wants to know me when he wants feeding!
-
Isn't that always the way with men ? ::) ;D
Henry's gorgeous  :cat: He looks a bit like my Misty but she's more brown and beige but her eyes aren't as piercing as his - how do you ever manage to say no to him :innocent:
Here's Mr T in his favourite spot (wherever is most in the way ;))
-
He is one fine looking puddycat HH! So glad he is back to his normal self now.
