Title: Moving to Llyn Peninsula/Caernarfon
Post by: Matt - Henbant on July 25, 2012, 06:08:34 am
Hi all,

We have sat in the corner of this forum a good many times learning bits and bobs, but we are finally going from having pigs and ducks in the corner of the garden to a smallholding of our own and are moving to our derelict smallholding near Clynog Fawr at the end of August.. I'd love to hear of any locals or tips etc.. Also if anybody has any wieners for sale in Gwynedd that would be brilliant..

Warmest and thanks,

Matt and Jenny

Welcome in from the cold , With the weeners it depends what your looking for, if its just for bacon raising then contact your local Auction house and find out when they have pig sales, I know that Hereford market you can get pink pig weeners from £6 -£15 each , but most private sales are around the £40 mark.

Hiya Mat and Jenny  - just up the road from you in Bala.  Sounds great.  We got our lovely Saddleback pigs from a lovely breeder near Llyn Brenig, they were a joy and tasty!

Hi and welcome to the Llyn Peninsula, we've been just down the road (literally) from Clynnog Fawr for many years, so anything you need just shout.

Had a look around for weaners. There aren't any upcoming sales in either Bryncir or Gaerwen markets, but have a look on here - www.farmingads.co.uk (http://www.farmingads.co.uk) - someone in Porthmadog has pure bred Welsh weaners at £20 each. If not I'll ask around, looking for anything in particular?

Don't read the book! I'd hate to put you off, it's a fantastic place really.

Wow, what a welcome, thanks everybody.. Thanks for the link and for looking around Gangani, I'll have to read the book now you have said that, but I'll make sure not to believe a word of it.

I'll let you know when we are installed and we'll bring you a cake and ask you questions!

Warmest,

Matt and Jenny

Hi, we're in Mynydd Llandegai, near Bethesda so not too far. If you are looking for quality weaners from great stock, really well looked after, I know an amazing lady near Colwyn Bay (a bit of a treck for you I know) but she also breeds pedigree rare breeds too. I highly recommend her.  Depends what you're after really.

Anyway welcome!

Hi Seabear,

I'm guessing you have moved in now & therefore up to your necks in boxes that need unpacking! Good luck with that. ;D  We moved in 3 1/2 years ago & still have a few boxes that haven't been unpacked yet.  ::)

Anyway, we are just up the road from you, near Llanllyfni. We have highland cattle, shetland sheep (although thinking of swapping these for welsh mountain), chickens, horses, dogs & some british lop pigs which go off in a couple of weeks.

If you are interested in british lops I can highly recommend Derek Harrison in Carmel, very helpful & knowledgeable.

If you need any local assistance feel free to give me a shout & i'll do what i can to help.

Hi Seabear we're about 40 minutes away on Anglesey. That's a beautiful area to live in I used to pass that way a lot on my way down the Lleyn surfing.  If British Saddlebacks are of any interest to you we'll have weaners available in 5 or 6 weeks.
