Hi all, we are having a muscovy frenzy as they serial sit and produce broods of 12-18 a time, so a busy pond at the moment. I've put an add in the Marketplace section if anyone is interested. Could also sell a mum and young brood (all Muscovies but pot luck on the sexes) if you would rather. Thanks for reading.

When we bought our first Muscovies, we were told that we might just manage to get them to breed - HA !! ::) As you've found Goosepimple, they certainly can breed ;D
Remember to kill the males before they are old enough to join in the gang rapes - they make good eating :yum: and are wonderful to watch until all that teenage angst arrives.

I'm still a bit soft when it comes to the killing / eating thing and they all have such lovely little faces ..... but it may come to that by the end of the year, sure our local butcher would be interested.

where do they go broody, GP? In their house, outdoors? I'm seriously considering getting one - would she mix with the others (skittish KCs and IRs)? They go down a ramp from their house into the garden - none of the others has bred in the house for 5 years but tried outdoors (what I can't allow). Can you move a Muscovy when broody? :&>

Ours are all 'outdoors' 100% there not being a fox problem here due to lots of gamekeepers in the area. Muscovies learn to fly around 12 weeks (girls fly first being lighter) but they don't fly away. We have a large mill pond so its impossible for us to put them to bed - but Muscovies roost on window boxes, roofs, fences etc and that keeps them safe. We had KCs and runners when we first came here and they were all taken by otter of all things (dog otters are huge) so now we only keep Muscovies because they survive here. They do love to swim and like a good dunk when washing. I don't wing clip because we don't have to for one thing but it's their only chance to get away if threatened. They are serial broodies bringing up their young very well until around 6-8 weeks old then having a couple of weeks holiday and back on the nest. We can't get to ours because they have taken to nesting underneath a building here by the river in some nice sandy soil. We'll have to put chicken wire round the base to keep them out but can't do that until they are all out which isn't going to happen until the end of the year. Beautiful ducks though and lovely nature, very calm, eat out of your hand.

Hi
I have a friend looking for a chocolate Muscovy drake. Can you or anyone help with his search?

We have at least one of just about every colour - let me know where he/she is.
