Our dogs eat horse, sheep and particularly chicken poo. There must eb something in it that they like. Fortunately, the don't eat dog poo, which si horrible.

On the way back from the walk we past a field of horses and Ben was focused on looking for a way in, the field had stock fencing so we did not worry too much, then he slipped under very quickly and started eating :( no matter what I said he was very focused, not at all interested in the horses, anyway, he looked up and saw me with a tasty snack I was pretending to give the other dog, that brought him back but, when he is focused, nothing seems to shift him, otherwise he is very good and comes back every time, that is until he sees Pooh of any sort, must find a way to stop him eating his own, he only takes a bit but it is disgusting, especially when I fell asleep on the sofa one evening and he woke me with a kiss on the lips!!! urh.....I think thats enough of that...
-
Forgot to mention, my springer boy eats the furballs the cat sicks up if you dont clean it up quick before he gets to it ... beluch :dog:
-
My GSD waits behind my greyhound, when she poos the gsd eats it, dont get fresher than that! My friends dog empties the cats litter tray!! disgusting creatures arent they!
-
Just lost my post...anyway, I have this vivid Vinson of Ben. I went out last night feeling fine but after a cup of coffee I suddenly had to go, I wondered deep into the woods and, as I am not the fittest person had trouble squatting, I did my bit only to see Ben (Labradour) picking up what I dropped!!!!!!! disgusting, I could hardly pull up my trousers quick enough to stop him eeeerrrrrugh!!
-
If it help you could alway tie him to a tree next time :)
-
If you add pineapple chunks to your dog's food it stops them eating their poohs. Can't advise on dogs eating other animals poohs except improve their recall!
I once went on a long walk in Scotland and one of my dogs ate loads of sheep pooh. We then went to visit a friend - they were very understanding when George decided to regurgitate the contents of his stomach all over their lovely cream carpet! :o ;D
-
Dogs do sooooo embarrassing things, I remember one of my daughter brought a Young man home, we all sat in the conservatory and had a cu ppa than my Lab and my Gern
man Shepherd sat in front of the conservatory and the Lab humped the German Shepard and she looked very worried!!!!!!!
-
You've just reminded me of another embaressing dog story. When I was 18 and staying at my boyfriend's house (same people as the previous story) we were eating breakfast with my boyfriend's parents when their cocker appeared with my knickers in her mouth!!!! Arghhhhh! :-[
-
I have three dogs a black whippett cross lab bitch a brindle staffi bitch and a black and white jack russellish dog thing, the bitches eat their own poo they all love cat poo they all nibble on horse, rabbit, poo thats when the whippett isnt rolling in it and very often the staffi humps the whippet while the JR humps the staffi, a sort of dog conga, one day will get it on video and £250 quid!!!!
I love em!
Seriously i have found that cheap dog food makes them eat poo they are probably lacking in nutrients i think.
-
I wondered about the dog food but he is now on Dr Johns Platinum all in one food, the other Lab has no bad habits but she is of course female!!!!!!

I took my two boys for a walk in a bluebell wood today and my 5 year old needed a pooh. We were totally on our own so I thought "why not - he can pooh out of the way no-one will ever know." Just as he's pulling his trousers up a dog shoots out of no-where and practically knocks Harry over to get to the delicious treat!! I started saying no to the dog and grabbing it as the owner finally arrived and I had to explain why I was man handeling his beloved pet - he wasn't impressed, put the dog on a lead and stomped off!! Very embaressing :-[ ;D
-
I'm still in trauma after seeing Bens head appear between my legs!!!!!!
-
I don't even want to start forming a picture in my head of that one!!
-
No, not pleasant!!!!!!!

I think it would have been the other way around if the dog was going for your son , don't be ashamed at all it's the owners fault for not being incontroll of their dog.
While i was away i went to the beach (just below the caravan site), and a dog on a lead decised he wanted to meet us from the other side of the path . The poor owner went flying and down on the ground like a ton of bricks and the dog prompty decised to try and give me a doggy hug. At this point i thought the owner was drunk but i think the guy just couldn't control the dog as it was too strong for him.

Interesting!!! I am never shaw if Ben if kepping his pack safe or just thing about himself. I can hold myself for years!!!! BUT if, i HAVE TO GO FOR A WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IN THE FOREST, BEN IS ALWAYS AROUND.....It may be a male thingy!!!

I did read somewhere that feeding natural yoghurt to dogs mimics whatever nutritional value they get from poo eating. Since then I've fed mine some most days and it seems to have reduced it. However my 4 year old child got caught short recently and one of the dogs cleared up after her, so I don't think its the full story. Possibly one just has to face the fact that they really do have disgusting habits!
-
Our springers race each other into the garden to get the chicken poo and will eat horse, cow and sheep poo, given the chance. anyone would think we didnt feet them!
-
Makes me so glad to be human and not a dog!!

Rustyme, I may need that book if/when I get the VW back. Once we were in Cornwall and had a great day in a quiet spot, my partner needed to go desperately so whent the other side of a large bush, he was giving me a running comentry as we both had not been for a while, he was sooooo proud he asked me to have a look, I did and was surprised at the size and we both had a loud laugh about "it" then drove away, only to find around the bend a family were enjoying a ppicnic the other side of the Bush, we were very embarressed :-[ Another ay, still in my barbie pink VW, we drove o Newquay and watched the surfers and as it was very warm in the van, at that time we both had long blond hair and bright coloured clothing, we both fell asleep with the curtains open. I woke up but lay still a I heard a car pull up next to us, I heard a child shout "come and look in here dady" her daddy had a look and said, "it's only 2 stoned Hippies" I lay still for ages as I did not want to spoil there surprse afterall, I was a nice middle aged women!!!!!!!not sure about my partner, he WAS a Hippy ::)

If your dog eats poo from your own dog/s you can feed a tablet supplement from the petshop to the dog thats having its poo eaten to prevent it. Also seaweed supplement is meant to help the dog thats doing the eating :)
-
Ihave seen him eat his own poo but I don't think he does it often as I collect whathe does in the yard regulalry and it seems all in tact my other dog does not seem to do too much poo in the yard, maybe he is eating hers although I have not seen him do this. He is young and it may be he is trying everything as he is a pig, anyway, as I said, he's notkissing me again!!!!!!
-
does the pineapple thing work? our flatcoat retreaver eats other dogs poo and her own, disgusting habit and its not because of hunger, speaking to other owners they all seem to do it. maybe some breeds are worse than others....................neil
-
lol you cant beat a poo out doors brings u back to nature. when i lived in the city a dog in my street used to eat its own poo thought this was down to him being starved (would give him one of my sandwiches going to school). obvoiusly not. wish i kept my sambos now.
-
Keep him on a long lead when out for a walk. When he heads for the poo, yank him back - REALLY yank him, and yell, and I mean YELL at him. He really must be told it is unacceptable. Pineapple stops them eating their own, but not others
My old German Wirehair has always had the habit of eating other dog's po, but she knows not to do it if I am watching. I make sure she is wormed more often than the others as a precautionary measure,
-
I am so glad I don't eat dogs ;D.........that is unless it has found it's way into some Fast Food ;D ;D
-
you cant beat a portion of roasted golden retriever served with tonkatsu and fried rice.
-
well some curries have a real bite and some taste like crap , so ??????????????????? your guess is as good as mine... :o ::) ;D
cheers

Made me smile when I was out with my dogs, I came across the most en ourmouse pile of manure and Ben's eyes (Labrador not partner) lit up and off he ran, he is a lazy dog and usually sniffs around and sometimes breaks into a trot, so, he ran up to the pile, chose a bit to chew then ran off with it and had a roll on it, he looked like he was in heaven, thankfully it was a bit too dry to make him mucky but I wondered if we were going to gt hi back but he decided enoughs enough....... :dog:

Simple pleasures. It's a dog's life!
-
OK, so Ben is improving, he is a clever dog and he can easily open doors so now I have made a sort of gate to keep him from comming inside all the time, anyway, the garden is in 5 sections, the top section for the chickens which is gated then the another 3 sections then another gate to the yard where the dogs stay although now my other Lab has stopped digging up pants I often open this gate for them to Sunbathe, well, I just went out and Ben had opened the chicken gate and guess what he was enjoying!!! the chickens were in the flowers having a sort out too, at least everyone soon when back to where they belonged, fortunately Ben is not remotely interested in chasing them although last night he brought us a life hedgehog and was a bit peeved when he dropped it at our feet and we took him away from it, he is an amusing dog I must say!!
-
lol, just watch for flea's especialy hedghog ones as they love some dog blood

"although now my other Lab has stopped digging up pants"
why were u burying pants. i know skid marks can he hard to remove but i dont think you need to go that far.
-
I did think that but didn't want to ask, as i thought it was a personaly question to ask about the state of Sandy's underwear (or even her other half's underwear status)
Linz
-
Yes, I wondered about that too, but I thought maybe it was the previous owner who buried the pants ;) ;D ;D
-
Sorry "plants" ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
oh plants now im with you lol
-
I remember my Lab Poppy taking my daughters pants up to the top of the garden as we had a Gardener and he used to find them under bushes!!!!! ;D
-
Just count yourselves lucky - I daren't hang mine out to dry - my Brittanys jump up and take them off the whirly, spinning it round as they go, then run round the garden with them. So they get dried over the radiator in my bedroom now - with the door locked! ;D
-
Mine don't go on the line, I worry some crow may make a nest in them as they are very roomy!!! ;D I remember the days of small pants!!!!! ;)
