Title: Muscovy ducks (this years) Scottish Borders
Post by: goosepimple on June 21, 2012, 09:19:57 pm
Hi, we have had a lot of Muscovy ducklings this year and they will be looking for homes around July/August. Will have to sell in trios I think and can give unrelated males.  We have various colours and they are beautiful birds, lovely nature and don't mind you stroking them.  We may have enough females for those not wanting a drake but don't know that at the moment as quite a lot of them are still too small to tell.  Just threading now to see if there is any interest.  Don't want to put them in the salerooms if necessary.

Muscovies are more goose like and enjoy grazing in their diet.  We have a 70m pond for them and while I don't expect most people to have that in their back yard, it would be a good idea to have something more permanent than a bath as they are quite large and love swimming.  Mature drakes don't often take to females of another species although a young male growing up in a place where there are other species females already, tends to know his place.  Muscovies make excellent mums although they normally need a batch under their belt to get the hang of it.  Don't know what they're like to eat as they are too pretty. :eyelashes:

I can thread with pics at a later date but if interested let me know.  Thanks for reading!

can i register an interest?

we have a wee swimming area, and our gang roam freerange all day and have a secure area for night time.

i currently have 1 campbell drake, 1 campbell x runner duck and 1 mallard drake, so a trio would likely work fine.

don't know how a muscovy drake would take to your other stock but I may be able to give some girls only - we have just had another mum pop out with her 12 brood this afternoon, so we have around 50 ducklings of various ages.
I'll bring up this thread again in a month or so once we know roughly how many we have of each sex.  Thanks tazbabe!

that's great, just girls would be good, but i presumed you would want some of the boys away too, and i din't want to be greedy!

our wee mallard duck just disappeared about a week ago. i am hoping she is sitting on eggs somewhere, she did this before..... although i suspect not.....hope she didn't suffer if she is gone!
