What colour should Quail eggs be? Mine layed two eggs today. One is blue and pretty, the other is green and squishy. As it is their first attempt I am presuming the green one had a shell with not enough calcium. Jack Russel terrier didn't complain!! licking her lips as I type.

The Chinese quail it think lay blue eggs but japanese lay tan coloured eggs with darker speckled markings.
-
I only know about Japanese Quail.
The eggs are sort of cream with pretty, brownish, splodge type markings. The inside of the shells is a blue colour. They do vary quite a lot. Some appear a bit bluish or greenish and we do have the odd white or green egg with no markings.
Your squishy egg was probably them just getting into the swing of things.
My dog adores quail eggs, much more so than hen eggs. He waits hopefully while I'm collecting them and they are the only food item that he will steal if I leave them on top of the pen for a while. ;D

Another blue one this morning!! soon have enough for a breakfast.

Now they seem to have got the hang of it. They start off blue and progress to pretty brown spotty ones. I am so pleased with my girls.

they look just like ours, so they must be normal!
having said that, our quail are getting on abit and are laying abit pathetically actually... we often get flat ones, dusty ones, splodgy ones etc
