Title: Worming pigs of mixed age
Post by: Button End Beasts on June 18, 2012, 11:37:30 am
I have 2 sets of pigs of different ages running together - the electric fence was off one day, they pushed the fence down and all seemed to get on very well so we left them to it! I recently wormed our 7 months old gilts, with the result of a lovely long tapeworm found coming out one of the pigs backsides! Our 5 months old OSBs were wormed when we collected them (at 8 weeks). Having seen the tapeworm in one the older girls, should I also worm the younger OSBs now?

Many thanks for your help.

Similar thing happend to us recently noticed a gilt very slow growing and bit nipped in near back legs so wormed her and bingo big worm so did the rest of them in with her as precaution.Might be worth doing a worm count on your ground but if ones got them i would dose all the rest for good measure. Make sure you clear away to the compost heap or burn any worms they poo out as you don't want them in the ground to be reingested.
