For two days I have found a slightly larger than average egg in the nesting box, it seems to be thicker shelled and ridged? best way to describe it as like papermache ??? all chickens seem fine, any ideas?
the shell does seem hard?

Sounds like a young pullet just come into lay. She will lay some strange eggs in the first few weeks before settling down. What breed are they Chris?

I have three girls brought in April at POL, a Bluebell and a Scotch Grey and a hy bred. They are now in with my 5 older girls. Must be one of them I suppose although the egg is bigger than the others ??? Thanks for the reply I was concerned something was wrong..............livestock, quite a learning curve :chook:

I get one that looks like that every now and then. Seems to be only one if the hens. I think it has to do with odd shell production. Have you opened it yet? :chook: :&>

Will crack it later!! and report back ;D

Sounds like it could be a double yoker?

Just a double, no medals here :D who ever it is laid another today, still odd texture she must get the hang of it in time.
