I've called this a ghost post cos I don't expect many replies, but I'm a Man United supporter (Manchester born)
and have always supported them from the sofa... so come on then, what team do you support?
-
in other parts of the UK this is quite an innocent post or request but north of the border this takes on a very different aspect more so if you are in Glasgow it is asked mainly to determin what religion you are :farmer:
-
My post is not in any way ment in a sectarian sense all I was wanting to here about was local support for teams I've never heard of...I can't watch man U play - but I do watch Deveronvale United. (from Banff )
-
not a footie fan myself never have been and just cant see the point either as watching it or the religion aspect or the vast sums of money that is poured into it and the over ratted players
i did have the pleasure of meeting Brian whittaker and his football skills and even after a bottle of Morgans was a dream to watch rip Brian :farmer:

Well...... As a youngster I played football to obsession sneaking into the 'boy's' yard at school so they could had a top defender in the days of Pele ::) girls were expected to play skips etc. How boring .
Now I jost about still being Newcastle supporter but am careful about it where I live Too many Sunderland supporters and big rivals. But tease OH family about me supporting Sunderland just for the wind up ( they are strict Newcastle supporters )
......But when I'm in Manchester ( mothers family home) I go for Man U There are always big family debates on which is the better team as the family is split pretty much half Man U and half Man City.
My youngest(4yr old) son is now footie obsessed but has opted for Barcelona :o oh well.... You cannot keep them all on the right side of the line
-
depends who's playing ... used to go to Chesterfield town matches years ago,
Lincoln city (grandad's team)
Rams
Don't really keep up with it anymore, o/h can't stand it & Saturday afternoon's are too busy!
I always preferred football & rugby to the hockey & netball (uurrrgh!) that us girls were expected to play at school too...
-
You are right Robert about the money side of it...and yes I can see it's lack of appeal, but at times
I find it relaxing, a mental break...and quicker than snooker..mmm unless Ronnie O'Sulivan is playing ;D
-
I've never understood the hype about football (or, in fact, any other competitive sport). Anyway, they earn so much money, can't they afford to buy a ball for each of them, so they don't constantly have to fight about the one? ::)
-
When I taught in the North-east, the kids would ask which team I supported. I tried, once or twice, to explain that I wasn't that interested in football, but this was clearly such an alien concept there that I didn't get very far.
So I took to telling them that I supported Grimsby Town (which is where I went to school). That gained me sympathetic looks and stopped the conversation instantly :D

Long suffering Bristol city fan here :innocent:

Agreed, but would add - can't see the point of playing it either !
And also add, anyone who arranges their entire life around the home games of Man City including wedding and christening of their child really does need to get a grip on reality IMHO
-
When football comes on i go for the off switch, not my seen.
-
I enjoy watching good football and go to St James' Park now and again.
-
Torquay United, I suppose if I were pushed ::)
-
In the early eighties i was a fanatical Spurs supporter because i fancied their captain Steve Perryman despite living in the North East, OH has always been a Middlesbrough supporter. I now don't really support anybody and mainly prefer to watch Spanish football as its much more entertaining and skillful, plus theres some gorgeous players
Mandy :pig:

Ooh Mandy - I looked after Steve Perryman's mum when I was nursing!! She was lovely (so was he ;) ) He managed 'my' team - Watford.
I followed Watford home and away for years until we moved to Worcestershire and I married a Bristol city fan (!). I was there in the John Barnes and Luther Blissett days, Elton John, Graham Taylor and my all time favourite *unknown* Rick Holden. Thems' were the days ;D

When I was 5 years old in the early fifties, my dad took me to the Molineux to see Wolves play and beat Liverpool 4-0, Billy Wright was captain , That evening after the game we went to the Fieldhouse pub at Claregate , Billy Wright turned up as usual as he was in digs just round the corner, and us lads had a kick about in the car park with him, this was a regular occurance .
Derek Dougan used to walk his dog down Keepers lane at the back of our house with my father in the seventies so it's natural for me to follow the missfortunes of Wolves.

I was disallowed from attending football matches as a girl; parents thought that football crowds were rowdy and football grounds unsafe places to be.
My local team was Wolves, so one Saturday me and my boyfriend were planning, my folks being away for the day, to go to Molineux to see Liverpool play Wolves (the boyfriend was from Liverpool and hence supported them fanatically.) Sadly, parents had a change of plans and arrived home just as we were about to leave, so I never did get to that football match.
40 years later, I finally got taken to a football match. BH is a closet Arsenal supporter, now I'm up here I like the Magpies (but still have a soft spot for Wolves - and Villa too), so, as the match was more-or-less on my birthday, we went to see Arsenal at St James' Park. It was that match. BH enjoyed the first half very much. And I saw the most exciting second half most people can ever remember! There was a goal disallowed each way, so in total I saw 10 goals in the first match I ever attended!
-
My family supported Queen's Park Rangers over three generations so, if pushed, I would say I support them. I have seen them play. Been to three professional matches in total - various teams inclusing the Scottish Cup final. Don't ask me who my favourite player is. The last one I remember was Phil Parkes and he must have been in the early seventies.
-
I have always supported Man United - much to my brothers horror, as he is a through and through Derby County fan. Want to go and see a live match, but sadly getting a ticket is not easy. OH was offered two by a friend who had a season ticket, and someone he got tickets for could not use them. He turned them down, saying I would not want to go .......arrrrgh!!!
