I have seven 3 week old runner ducklings. It's the first time we've had ducklings and can't believe how messy they are even though everyone warned me! What age do you start changing them from chick crumbs to growers pellets? Would like to move them soon into a spare chicken run the floor of which is wood chip. Is there any reason why this should be a problem? Thanks!

I would not use wood chips as bedding for ducklings. Apparently they eat the stuff - not good. Not sure if that's what you mean. :&>

we changed our ducks onto duck/goose pellets from 6 weeks old if feeding chick crumb you do know it has to be none medicated dont you ? :-)
we also use straw for their bedding

We always use straw for our ducks and there egglets. Not only messy...The smell is something else :o
OH kept 2 in the house for 2 weeks, she used the bath as a practice pool for them...on the flip side our visitors didn't stay to long... ;D

I can't find any non-medicated chick crumbs or duck crumbs anywhere here, so decided to raise our wee smelly on porridge - seems to go great so far! :&>

I use straw for ducklings too. The smell in the hall from my runners is making me think it's time they went outside...... :D
NFD, I might add a bit of scrambled egg as straight oats won't have as much protein in as chick crumbs.

will do JK - but porridge cooked in half water half milk, like for us ;D :&>
