I have planted some potatoes in special pots above ground as the soil round here is useless. Do slugs or similar like to eat these? If so what should I do to make sure my spuds will be ok when I dig them up.

Slugs seem to bury themselves into the soil and get at the potatoes, not much you can do apart from beer and egg shells. Its been a bad season for slugs, snails and the weeds. >:(
