Title: Guinea pig waste

Hi,does anyone know if you can use guinea pig poo on the veg patch,its a mixture of dropings wood shavings and hay.Or can it go on the compost heap.Cheers......

Woodshavings take ages to compost. So that's what I do with mine (mine are from chooks), put them on the compost for a year or so.

When I had guinea pigs the waste went into the compost. It does take a while to rot, just make sure there's no dry food grains/pellets in it.

I bed mine (buns not GP's) on hemp bedding or elephant grass as it composts soooooo much quicker ;)

Yes - I am planning to move to hemp once we have used up all the shavings. But since my compost cycle is two years anyway I haven't had much trouble with compsoting the shavings so far - but we don't have excessive amounts of it in the compost compared to everything else that goes onto it.
 
At the moment I am working my way through an enormous mouldy bale of hayage which is going to take me all year to layer with suitable "other" stuff  :D
