Title: Help - My weaner has a high temperature
Post by: Bionic on June 04, 2012, 02:28:08 pm
She is 12 weeks old and I noticed this morning that she wasn't very interested in her breakfast. She is pooing as normal but her temperature is 41.9

Should I call out the vet?

There is very little sun today  and it was pouring all day yesterday so don't think that sunstroke is the problem.
I have phoned the vet and she is coming out to take a look as the temperature is high.

I will report back later

it could be anything of about forty different problems   sunstroke  water deprivation   erysipelas etc is it a white pig and does it have redding of the skin it could also be pneumonia it is fevered at that temp you need tylan from the vet :farmer:

Vet has been and can't find anything obviously wrong. She has listened to Wendy's (pig) chest and there is no noise.
She gave a combined injection of anti inflamatory and antibiotics and said that if she was no better in 2 or 3 days she would come out again but she didn't seem to be particularly worried.

Fingers crossed the jab makes a difference  :fc:

Wendy was looking a bit brighter when I took up their evening meal. She ate some but not a lot although kept going back picking at it.  Hopefully she will be much better after a good nights sleep.

Good to hear she's a bit more interested though Sally
She should be feeling a whole lot better in the morning  ;)
Just check that their bedding isn't wet and that there's a bit of ventilation in the arc - it all helps.

in a pigs medicine cabinet always keep a bottle of vinegar it helps lower body temp when pigs over heat just dab some behind their ears, it works too  ;)

It caught me out, how wet they make their bedding tramping in and out when the ground is wet.  You can't tell by looking, either, you have to get down and push your hands into the straw.

Hope she's much better tomorrow, Sally  :-*

She still isn't exactly her old self but has been eating, peeing, pooing and drinking this morning and I did see her going for a little run.
I will be keeping a close eye on her today.

Thanks for the best wishes everyone

Hi
how is she today. I've had the same problem with high temps and being lethargic on and off since last July! finally had a blood test which came back as infection! both of mine seem ok at the mo so wait and see. I was given Finadyne paste, which seems to help bring the temp down.

She does seem a lot brighter today. Came running out of the ark and went straight to her breakfast although she didn't eat it as ravenouslyas the other one but then thats usually the case.
She came over for a back rub and then went back to her food.
